The guy is fat and to be a fat world class athlete is sort of inexcusable, BUT...It would not be smart to make a drastic weight change at this point. He should train and eat well, but dropping too much weight would adversely effect his performance. He needs to give the body time to adjust. So he should do the slow steady weight loss thing.

Why fix it if it ain't broken? He beat arguable the best heavyweight in the world weighing 260+. Keep doing it until it doesn't work, then make changes.
I don't know anything about Ruiz's eating habits, but his speed, power, and technique are impressive. I'd rather watch him hit the mitts, shadow box, and hit the heavy bag than watch most boxers fight. Ruiz rivals Tyson for impressive gym work and quickness, if he did become 15-20% better with more nutritional discipline, he might be unbeatable! Ruiz stays in the gym. Douglas was a mess. I’ve said it before, you don’t know many Mexicans if you think Ruiz’s physical appearance proves his level of fitness.
The extra weight gives him power his hands at 260lbs are already faster than most. Have not seen him notably fatigued even against Parker.
Ruiz weighed 255 lbs vs Joseph Parker. He should hire a nutritionist because he's obviously having difficulty managing his weight. The sooner he implements positives changes the better. If he continues on his current trajectory I see the possibility of him suffering from health related issues.
It was part of the game plan coming in 10lbs heavier. Robles stated so on several occasions but of course you know better.
That's why Andy himself states that he plans on losing a considerable amount of weight for the rematch.
