I wonder why Ruiz signed the contract agreeing to a tiny purse then? First he signs, then he complains. Signs of a moron.

If the deal is unfair to him, then why did he sign it? He could have simply refused to sign on the dotted line.

It is ridiculous. His team did a poor job of negotiating the rematch terms and Andy is paying for it. I don't see why it's anyone else's problem.

I said it before that there was a reason AJ struggled to find an opponent after Miller popped.

Hearn's getting tarred and feathered by Haymon on the big screen in real-time and MRFC are absolutely raging. This whole saga has drawn out the Brentwood sleeper cells like a poultice drawing pus from a wound.

Contracts are starting points. Terms are renegotiated all the time. That’s the real world.

Don't go bringing real-life into this please mate. There are posters here who 2 years ago were raving football fans but have worked hard to transform themselves into lawyers, accountants, PR specialists and general gurus of all things boxing business-related.

It would be a terrible thing to see their online alter-ego's get shoved face-first into a rotten crow pie as they realise they've just been under the spell of a better-than-average salesman from Essex.

Fight was favoured to be in the UK, now it's not. It's likely to be in Saudi Arabia with a much bigger purse. Chances are if it happens there, Ruiz will get more than the oft-quoted $9m. His lawyers will likely argue the circumstance and finances have changed enough to challenge the terms signed for. They might be able to establish, in terms of a percentage of the purse, $9m for the rematch is less than what he was paid for the first fight.

If that argument wins the day, he will earn more money and avoid Joshua's home town advantage. And people are calling him a moron. lol

He did what he needed to do to get a fight.

Call him a moron all you want but he's already got the venue signed and he will likely get a few extra million out of his demands.

It used to be that when you won the title, you were the man and called the shots. These rematch clauses significantly reduces the significance of having a belt in the first place. If you lose, you are no longer the man. You shouldn't be able to dictate what the champ does. But rematch clauses are doing just that.

It's absurd that Ruiz, after having won the belts fair and square, leaves all the negotiating to the Joshua camp. Down to the location and purses.

In fact, Ruiz and his team should just take it up to court and invoke the Mohammed Ali reformation act. Gives power back to the champ, invalidate this contract and sets a precedent for future rematch clauses. A rematch clause should only stipulate you have x amount of months to rematch the fighter who invoked it. Not take away all other negotiating powers like location, purses, etc..If an agreement can't be reached then it goes to a purse bid. This way, you can't get away from a rematch clause but at the same time, one party doesn't hold the cards for said rematch.

This fight really should be in Vegas btw.

And why did he have to do that to get the fight? Because he hadn't earned a shot. He needs to quit his bellyaching and get on with fighting.

He won the first fight in dominant fashion and if Joshua won the rematch in controversial circumstances he would need to have a rubber match for big big money if he wants to go negotiate with Fury/Wilder on a strong footing.

He should be mad at Haymon for not securing better terms for a rematch in the initial contract.

Good luck with getting a square deal other than as a mandatory challenger in that case.
