There are people who suggest that boxing technique has improved significantly since Robinson's time and that he wouldn't be more than a journeyman today with that technique. My question to you is, what about his technique is inferior to what Spence or Golovkin do? To my eye, his footwork at least is superior to either of theirs. Forget that he's faster, stronger, or longer. Narrow this down to technique. What is he doing wrong, and is he doing anything right? I'd like to hear your thoughts.
His technique was excellent. His reflexes were excellent. He was not perfect, but almost everything he did was at times excellent. Robinson would be a champion today or in any era.
If you want to argue about technique and generations you'd have to compare the talent pool altogether. Compare the technique of all of Robinsons opponents vs the technique of somebody from todays era with a stacked resume such as Pacquiao. It's much easier to dominate a weaker talent pool.
Sugars style has traveled through time. Sugars flaws came on the defensive side, and when his defense failed him, his chin took over. His style imo can and could dominate today's fighters.
He’s not cherry picking past prime opponents based on name recognition. Oh you said technique? SRR’s shoulder roll and potshotting isn’t all that. At least like some modern fighter(s).
He would win more rounds v Spence at welter than he would have v GGG at 160, La Motta was giving him hell for a number of rounds with his jab and combo`s in their final fight and GGG had better reach and much more power than LaMotta, in that fight Robi looked easy to hit.
Imagine you try to KO GG like robinson does here in 1:21 This content is protected What do you think it would happen? hehehe Robinson is what he is. The best p4p ever. But his boxing is OLD, and boxing has evolved, and his boxing has flaws. Flaws that more actual fighters dont have. People won't come here and say "robinson had flaws", because they have been repeating that he's the best p4p ever like parrots, they dont know exactly why, and they wont come here an say that, taking the risk of someone saying "YDKSAB". I dont care, I have eyes, I know what I see. EDIT: oh man, his jaw, hanging on the air... there... just waiting to be rocked, like a deaf hits a bell.
he's not asking if he would win to this or that fighter. But about his boxing, if you find it outdated or not. And the comparisson with the style of other fighters.
Huh... Robinson had flaws. Louis had flaws. Ali had flaws. Mayweather has flaws. Pac has flaws. Loma has flaws. There's no flawless past or present boxers.
The phrase, say it completely. Robinson had flaws..... that more modern fighters dont have. Obviously, mayweather has flaws, that 2040 top fighters wont have. That's life. The difference will be less and less the older the sport gets, anyway.
