Just watched Mayweather vs Emmanuel Burton. I don't think he could have beaten Loma at 130

Here is the fight. Mayweather is not particularly strong here. Doesn't really show big power at all. Defense he's more open to be hit than you would expect given his reputation. Contrary to popular belief, I actually don't think Mayweather was best at 130. I think he was best at 140 pounds in his brief stint there.

In the past I thought that Mayweather would be too big and too strong for Loma. But seeing Loma walk down bigger guys at 135 I think he's strong enough to hang with Mayweather at 130. At 135 or higher forget about it.

But I think Loma would take a far less experienced Mayweather into to deep water and drown him at 130 pounds. I see holes in Mayweather's game here that Loma would exploit.

Pbf was coming off a layoff when he fought augustus with that said he battered and still stopped him. The version of pbf who fought chico at 130 and put on the best exhibition of boxing of the era while dropping him multiple times would stop loma.

That's possible too. I see Mayweather at 130 though and I see a fighter who is mostly reliant on his quickness and athleticism. And at 140 he's using that and more experience.

Mayweather at 130 didn't move his head as much and he goes back in a straight line a lot more.

Loma would have used that against him. Corrales is a puncher. Loma is not a puncher. He would not look to load up on one big shot.

Also at 140 Mayweather is harder to hit. Use of angles is better. More risk averse. More patient. More disciplined. Higher ring IQ.

I would favor Loma over Mayweather at 130. Not a big favorite, but he's more polished and experienced than Mayweather is at 130.

I agree that pbf was underrated at 140 he was good there and was much quicker of both hand and foot at that weight than what he was at 147. I always say that if pbf could have fought Hatton at 140 he would have beaten him worse there than he did at 147.

The problem for loma would be the extreme reach disadvantage he would have against pbf at 130 on top of that he would also be the slower fighter as well who would get beat to the punch. Pbf at 130 had good pop he could drop him with the same kind of right hand linares caught him with. I think pbfs combination of size and skill is too much for loma to overcome.

Makes sense. The reach could have been a problem. If the fight is at 135 or 140 then Mayweather all day, every day. But at 130 Loma is a more experienced and technically skilled fighter. Not really Floyd's fault, but Loma at 130 was a very experienced and primed out guy.

What vesion of Loma are you using? May was 24 i think when he fought Coralles. Loma was still an amateur.

People make the mistake of giving young Floyd the same ring IQ and experience as the older version. People do it with Ali too, and wind up with a Frankenstein's monster that is perfect on paper but never existed in reality.

I've always maintained that 130 Floyd just wasn't seasoned enough to deal with a peak master boxing southpaw. Its a race to see who figures who out first, and Loma isnt going to lose that to a novice, as great a talent as Floyd is.

Obviously as you move up, the more that dynamic changes. Floyd doesn't just get bigger physically, he gets smarter and more seasoned as well. That matters more than people typically account for

Using the No Mas version of Loma that made everybody quit at 130. At 130 depends on which version of Mayweather you're talking about. I look at the No Mas version of Loma against the Floyd who fought Augustus. I'm telling you, if that version of Floyd shows up against prime Loma, he's taking an L.

That's not controversial either. Mayweather is he doesn't show up 100 percent against Loma at 130 is taking an L.

Exactly which is why at 130 Loma is going to figure out Floyd. People want to say that Mayweather was as technical at 130 as he was at 140. When it's just flat out NOT TRUE.

It's like saying pre Exile Ali was just as skilled as a the Ali against Foreman. Well, it's just NOT TRUE.

Pbf had a high ring iq at 130 he was just fighting guys who were either his same size or smaller than him so he was more offensive. You saw how much respect he gave chico who he elected to box and showed a high ring iq in that fight by taking away his power hand.

I just watched the first four rounds, but it looked to me like Floyd completely dominated Burton. I hate Mayweather, but he's got skills. Burton is very badly overrated by some. I think a big problem he's having against Floyd in this fight is that he doesn't have enough pop.

I wouldn't be too concerned that 23 year old Mayweather doesn't look as good as a 31 year old Lomachenko. I think they likely were on similar progressions in terms of their skills. Lomachenko didn't even turn pro until he was 25. His struggles with Salido are very reminiscent of the way Floyd struggled with Castillo at the same age.

We can play that chess game all day long about how this fighter loses to this fighter at a certain time. I would love to see it though.
