Good question. To me the Baer fight showed his lack of judgement when facing a very physical fighter and his inability to change a failing fightplan on the fly. He was clearly the better boxer of the two yet insisted on boring straight into Baer. The obvious counterpoint to this is that he fought an even better fighter in Louis and boxed his head off. So maybe I am being unfair?

This is a flaw Holyfield suffers from too ... the guy can't say no to a brawl if his life depended on it. I think vs guys like Marciano and Dempsey that tendency would bite Holy in the ass.

Do Usyk and Holyfield not have a place?

No chance Walcott beats Langford. Joe was chinny and Sam a brutal puncher.

Another under 200 that looks good on video is Doug Jones. I think he'd be a lot smaller than Holyfield,Usyk, Gassiev, and Clay (video shows he was), but IMO he is a better fighter than most of the ones from the other list.

Usyk has done more at CW than Holyfield did.

That's probably true, but Holy did beat Qawi, he just wasn't at cruiser very long and with steroids the money was at heavyweight

If a 6 foot nothing, 74" reach 38 year old with 70 fights can create the range to befuddle Marciano for 12 rounds, what does a fresh 6-3 guy with a 78" reach, who uses his feet and angles like Usyk, do to the lil' fella?

The same, he'd school Marciano until he'd get tired and got knocked out or outworked in late rounds.

Except he is younger, much fresher, has much more tread on the tires and better physical assets. I assume we are not taking the Usyk of his final two fights, whenever they may be.

Yeah, of course Usyk would be a tough battle for Rocky. Still, Rocky wasn't at his peak either in first Walcott fight and he beat every single fighter that was better boxer with better physical assets. It's not unreasonable to pick Usyk, but to assume that he'd dominate Rocky because Marciano struggled against Walcott is not fair. Joe wasn't similar to Usyk, he fought differently and it's not a given that Usyk is better than him.
