Results from tonight:

It's Tool Time Australia! Tim "The Toolman" Tszyu wide UD over Dwight "Wake in Fright" Ritchie. Ritchie was cut very badly early on from a right hand that threatened to end things prematurely. It rattled him but he battled on & did well to make it competitive for 10 rounds. No knockdowns. Ritchie wobbled once but recovered well. Tszyu moves to 14 and 0 with 10 kayos.

Cesar Mateo Tapia very impressive at Super Middle beating Ren Quinlan by wide UD. Haven't seen him before & he's good. Very good. He should advance to become a world class fighter.

Rocky Jerkic lost a wide UD to a very strong Kazakh who is a world class fighter. I don't think any of our other Super Middles will be queuing up to face him.

Jack Brubaker stopped Danny Kennedy on a cut. Was getting on top at the time of the stoppage I thought.

Tayla Harris impressive in stopping Renee Gartner in a women's fight.

Another really good night of boxing. Enjoyed all the fights with Junior Tszyu & Cesar Mateo Tapia the standouts.

 

How did little Zoober look?

 

Of course I picked all 3 winners outright and Tim be decision and didn’t bet. F my life.

 

Good, but he's still got a way to go before he's ready for top level guys.

I mean, he's yet to face someone who is genuinely top 50 in the world & the guys he is facing he hasn't stopped.

So I assess him as having plenty of talent but with plenty of work to do before he's ready for a world title shot.

I've mentioned the likes of Ray Robinson & Lucky Boy Omotoso as benchmark international opponents for him. Both are around 30 in the world in their respective divisions & would test Junior Tszyu to the max. Lucky Boy would be a particularly dangerous opponent because he hits hard enough to hurt & is good enough to finish off when he does.

Junior Tszyu isn't ready for Horn so we can put a line through that one right now. Zerafa is still a viable opponent & Dennis Hogan would be a very attractive opponent for Junior Tszyu when his pursuit of the WBO belt comes to an end. Hogan is a guy with decent skills but no stoppage power which is ideal.

Get through that lot then Horn & a world title shot come into play.

 

Tszyu Jnr did well last night he was to strong for Ritchie and he knew it immediately. Tszyu was really able to just walk through Ritchie's shots to land his own. I could see his team doing something like bringing out Canelo's brother Ramon Alvarez for a fight because they would obviously be able to use the name to sell tickets and it would be a decent test.

 

Tim did real good I'm stoked for him . Jerkic had one of da toughest fights on da night , yep I don't thing any Australian will fight Adois da Kazak boxer after that no wonder no body wants to face him

 

I wouldn't recommend Omotoso for anyone that isn't already seasoned on tough international comp...

 

Team Tszyu don't want none of Omotoso. That could be a very Unlucky night for the lad.

Not to much to gain from it either really..except props from the more hardcore fans.

Tszyu chasing that Bogan $$$.

 

If Mundine beats JWP I would not be at all surprised if we get Mundine v Tszyu early next year.

 

I was impressed with Tapia and Tszyu. Quinlan had no answers and was being a punching bag. What an effort by Ritchie, fighting with one eye and taking all that Tszyu gave.

So who is he fighting? Based on recent form he's not above losing to a half decent journeyman.

A few further random thoughts from last night:

I wonder if we might see more of those two blokes from Kazakhstan who fought last night? Only one fight was televised, but they both won well.

One is a Super Middle & the other is a Welter. That makes them about the right size to be sparring with Junior Tszyu & Cesar Mateo Tapia. Not sure if that occurred this time around, but wouldn't be surprised.

If they got paid to fight & do a few weeks sparring it kind of make the trip out here more worthwhile. And they're both going home with wins, regional belts & their undefeated records intact.

I think the idea of matching Junior Tszyu with the best local opposition has been a winner. There appeared to be a very good buzz around the show last night following on from a PPV that reportedly did better than expected last time out.

Tszyu needs that international opposition next up but there's certainly a few more domestic names that can build on the buzz created by likes of Joel Camilleri & Dwight Ritchie. I think people really respect these guys getting an opportunity, preparing hard for it & giving it their all. I know I do.

 

Big Daddy is living in delusion land.. Maybe 5 years ago he was relevant but he really is more about fitness than boxing tbh. He just needs to realise it himself..

All thats left for him dollar wise is getting ko'd on Matchroom shows until the casuals don;t rate him anymore..

 

Yeah Omotoso looked very good in his last fight. His jab alone would give someone like Tszyu nightmares.
