Oh you gonna get a lot of flack for having Pac in the top 5. Otherwise I couldn't really argue with it except maybe moving Porter down a couple.
Can you plz explain ? I mean no doubt he's skilled and fun to watch but still needs good names on his resume imo
Pac is a top ten all time p4p but not top ten p4p right now. You'd have to go back about five years before he'd belong there. I guess, he's fighting in a weight class he wasn't born into and beating bigger men, but he's not dominating his weight class anymore. Drop down to 140 or 135 and maybe he's the man again. Strictly speaking though, from a purely technical point of view, you couldn't move anybody else fighting right now into their eighth weight class and expect them to do as well as a 40 year old Pacquiao. But if that's how we're going to do things #1 is Pac #2 is Donaire #3 is Gonzalez, just because nobody else has moved up as many weight classes.
Technically in the last few years he has the only resume with an ATG, never mind that just that resume in those last few years puts just about everyone else at welter to shame. While guys like Crawford and Spence are getting rated 1 and 2 all down to the eyes and not their resume.
Based on the strength of his overall resume, coupled with the fact that he just beat Keith Thurman who I previously had ranked at 10th on my list means he's top 10. The only reason he wasn't on it previously was due to his loss to Horn. The win over Thurman is easily better than anything Crawford or Spence have on their resumes.
Inoue has a whole slew of names on his resume already. Taguchi, Narvaez, Kono, Payano, McDonnell, Rodriguez, Hernandez, Basapean, Jarupianlerd and Carmona are all top tier very solid names have on your resume for someone fighting in lower divisions. Well they may not be household names, but most people in the lower divisions aren't, just trust me here, we in the know, know what we're talkin about. None of those opponents are easy outs for anybody, he destroyed the majority of them without breaking a sweat.
Yeah, if it's about accomplishments at the weight then Pac is #1 in accomplishments, even in recent times. Broner, Thurman, Horn, Matthysse, Vargas, and Bradley in the last three years. Crawford by comparison has only fought Khan, Horn, and Benavidez, although he looked better against them. Spence meanwhile has fought Brook, Garcia, and Peterson? I guess Manny does deserve props on that front. He's still out performing the young guns. Take the eye test and H2H out and he's got every reason to be p4p even if everyone can see him slipping. But everyone can see him slipping. That's one of the things I never liked about people giving Mayweather p4p#1 automatically every year. You could see he wasn't what he used to be. Ward, Donaire, Rigondeaux, and Gonzalez deserved that honor more four of the years Mayweather held it and those guys were robbed of their laurels. Right now, Lomachenko is beating people in the most impressive fashion. Following him is Inoue, Usyk, and Crawford. But think, why would a pound for pound list include 30 spots, unless it was meant to include fighters who weren't even the best at their own weight class. And if we are including fighters who aren't even the best in their own weight class then Manny deserves to be in. He's still top three at welterweight.
Pac-Man is absolutely a top 5 fighter right now. Thurman has a win over both Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter making his resume one of the strongest at 147. He is also very much over the hill right now, whoever beats him next won't get the honour of beating a prime ATG, but it would be a reasonably good win. To be honest, I really like Pac-Man and really hope he can give it up now. His resume is beautiful and he is a top 10 ATG for sure.
But we're talking about now, not yesterday. He had four in the 2000s. He hasn't legitimately beaten an ATG fighter this decade. Bradley will probably be HOF but not top 100 ATG.
