prime Frank Bruno v Andy Ruiz who would have won?

WTf are you rambling about? Bruno fought in the most juiced era of boxing and bulked to almost 250 late in his career.

 

What if Joshua stops Ruiz convincingly in the rematch. Will this automatically change the dynamics of a Bruno/ Ruiz matchup as well?

 

Not necessarily. To beat Ruiz, Joshua has to make some adjustments, he's got to work on his flaws. You can't go in with the same gameplan twice, especially when you got your brains knocked out the first time.

 

I’m not too sure about that. It was a beautiful combination that put down Ruiz and I sure that he’s more that capable of replicating that in the rematch but just has to avoid being careless in his follow-up this time. Being caught carelessly trying to finish the job was what cost Joshua the fight the first time round. He was caught by a swinging left hook that seem to catch him near the top of his head which seem to scramble his senses and his balance and he never recovered for the rest of the fight until the end. Can Ruiz do it again? Sure he can but I wouldn’t put as a forgone conclusion that he wins in the same manner as he did in the first fight.

 

He fought Tyson close enough to his best in their first fight. It is a rare situation that any two fighters meet at their actual best.

 

Tim Witherspoon was world class and would beat Ruiz

So Tyson, Lewis, Witherspoon or Smith couldn’t knock Bruno out with the first hook they landed but Tommy would.
There seems to be a misconception here that Bruno was some kind of brittle glass jawed bum, who would just roll over at the first sign of stress.
He came through a firestorm in the early moments of the Tyson fight, you know, when he was briefly floored from Tyson’s first hook, but fought back to hurt Tyson, eventually being stopped on his feet in the 5th.
He hurt Lewis,Witherspoon and Smith and was well in all of those fights. We all know or should know Bruno’s downfall, he gassed out, that’s when punches he took ok earlier had an effect later and he’d be stopped, not knowing what to do when in trouble.
Would Andy Ruiz do the same? I’m not sure, I bet not many would have took him over Bruno before he fought Joshua.
In some ways Bruno is a lot more solid than Joshua, less talented and stiffer but was pretty good at what he did, operating behind that solid jab, with a powerful right hand waiting if you got past it.
His left hook wasn’t bad either.
I think this fight is 50/50.
If Ruiz gets past the first 5 or 6 rounds and he has showed mettle when downed and fighting back against Joshua, then he could stop Frank in the usual style of Frank’s defeats later on.
Ruiz is talented with fast hands and looks a good finisher I’d Just about go with him here, but not by much.

 

Bruno lost every time he fought at elite level in my opinion.
He scraped a strap against a below peak McCall, hardly an elite matchup though Frank deserved it for his perseverance.
Earlier he beat Coetzee but he looked like a paid fall guy that night.
Bruno never really beat a top guy who was at his peak.

 

I agree, but is Ruiz a top guy?

 

AJ is useless .Bruno would spark him out early.his jab was much better and he hit harder genuine one punch power a big slow lump like Aj would be a slow easy target .

The Ruiz Joshua fight is confusing.

people say AJ is levels above Bruno but I disagree. compare the competition. Bruno gets underrated but he got beaten by the likes of Lewis and Tyson, Witherspoon was no slouch either. AJ had been more successful as a champion but he has had an easy ride in comparison, did he have any prime champs to contend with? Bruno also gave those guys decent challenges in loss as well. In terms of beating Ruiz, I do think Ruiz probably has the style to present problems but there is always a chance Frank would catch him, I'd have with Ruiz late though.
