The first fight wasn't a fix and that's been proven when Liston cheated by trying to blind Ali in the fight . I seen an interview on youtube a few years back and Ali stated in the interview that awhile before the first Liston fight an old man once approached Ali and offered him some type of substance to put on his gloves if he was ever in trouble during a fight. Ali refused to take the substance, but that very same man was in the Liston corner during the first fight when Ali went blind. Liston got beat up just like he deserved. I believe the second fight might have been a fix, but at the same time maybe Ali got in his head and he looked for a way out the fight.
The second fight it looks clear as day, Liston was not hurt, he exaggerated the effects of the punch. Was either fixed or he quit because he knew Ali would likely outbox him again. There is no way the “anchor punch” was legit, ali knew it as well, check his response and look on his face after the fight, he knew it barely landed. You don’t achieve a reign of terror going down from punches like that, Patterson would have taken Liston out if that were the case.
There is more than enough evidence about Don King, the Mob and threats against Liston's life prior to both fights for you to not be so naive. I know some people have alot invested in this Ali was the greatest scam, but some people need to grow up and let it go.
Wow lol I think what Information I provided would convince anyone who was not hating. Sorry, but I have seen the fight and i know Liston tried his best to get Ali out right away once he seen him blinded. Thankfully his cheating wasn't enough to close the show.
I don’t know if it was a fix or not, first fight wasn’t because of the trying to blind Ali tactic, there would be no point in that if you were throwing the fight. The second fight I just think he knew he couldn’t beat Ali and either wanted out or maybe threw it for big money cause he knew he would struggle after first fight, but this don king stuff is weird because he didn’t start promoting till 1972 lol.
I've seen that video that you posted and I already stated in the thread I think the second fight might have been a fix, but I ain't going to change my opinion on the first fight. I gave valid points. Another point to make is that other fighters have also claimed Liston put stuff in their eyes. Ali has gone down as the best heavyweight of all time in many peoples eyes and your hate ain't going to change it. Have a nice day Mr Hater.
Don King didn't get into boxing until 1972, seven years after the second Liston fight. His first time working with Ali was in 1974 for the Rumble in the Jungle.
If it was on the level, there's no way it ends up in Lewiston, Maine in the first place. All the actual fight did was confirm that the commissions who wanted nothing to do with hosting the fight were right to take that stance. Or, maybe I should drink the Kool-Aid and think it was just a coincidence that a title fight that ultimately ended up shrouded in controversy was blocked from being in Boston (and any other legit fight towns) due to concerns over organized crime...
No fix in either for me. Ali went on to prove he was a different class as time went on. Wasnt like beating liston was some kind of fluke win. Before the lay off he went on to bamboozle almost everyone he fought. The liston fight was a changing of the guard. Liston just ran into a one off guy in ali. Very few fighters especially heavyweights could fight on the move like ali....his hands and feet worked in unison. Up to that point and what i see today...they still cant do it. It gave liston nightmares. Leading him to cheat the first fight. The second fight....he went out giving it a go...but you actually seen him losing confidence as it unfolded. I say he knew he was in out his depth quite soon into that second fight. The punch put him over. He tried to take the cowards way out knowing he was about to be beat all ways up. He then restarts fighting cause he never really had another option after his way out fails. Liston was a great fighter. Would have had a longer run the same as foreman if there was no ali. Both guys a bit unlucky he came along....cause was starting too look like it would have taking something a bit special to stop them as they we,re stronger than their opposition at the time. Ali just had the perfect tools for that style tho.
I don’t think it was a fix. It was a legit knockdown at least. Maybe Liston could have got up but decided to quit instead, but I would not say fix
To be fair, when a title fight is barred from being held in every major fight town due to organized crime concerns, you will wind up with lousy attendance.
