Going Tenerife in a couple of hours. Father in law asked if i’ll be watching the rugby league challenge cup final next Saturday (come on you Saints!). I said of course, then staying in the pub to watch Anthony Yarde vs Sergey Kovalev...he replied, ”who”? So had to explain (he’s a casual fan) who Yarde was. He’s old school and reads the papers. I think this is an another example of nobody having a clue this is happening. I think he’s going to be dispatched with relative ease by Kovalev but perhaps thankfully, nobody will know and it won’t damage his profile.

I am interested to see how Yardes style transfers onto the big stage, well, big fights.

See Callum Johnson when he jumped from Buglioni to Beterbiev, and he had amateur experience on his side. Yarde hasn’t fought anyone better than Buglioni and has no real amateur experience going in against a world champ.

I’m on the Yarde train but I also know that when it comes up to the bridge, there’s going to be no more track left. He better hope he has a flux capacitor (geek reference).

Johnson did have a moment though and I'd say that Beterbiev is a tougher opponent, these days, than Kovalev, in terms of chin and durability. I completely get what you mean though and I think you're right, I just want to see Yarde pull it off, the division needs it, British boxing needs it.

I think most would see Kovalev as favourite based on his Resume and home advantage and Yarde as a relatively inexperienced guy who has got his opportunity by astute matchmaking. However Kovalev is not the force he was 5 years ago and Yarde has beaten what has been put in front of him . Unfortunately as Yarde hasn’t had his chin tested I am not able to accurately rate him . I would consider it a major achievement if Yarde was to win .

Good assessment. I would add that Kovalev has proven boxing ability at world level.

I would quite like Yarde to win just to see some movement in the division. The 4 belt holders are all good fighters and seemingly evenly matched but the fights just aren't happening!

Perhaps that's the plan. Keep it low key in case he's embarrassed. Shout from the roof tops if he nicks it.

Gone with Kovalev stoppage but genuinely impossible to say ! We dont know how good Yarde actually is ! I have sneaky suspicion he will surprise people but lose on points in Russia

Good well balanced opinion. I’m going for Yarde by KO, as he has the power and I think Kovalev maybe ready to go as his chin/ punch resistance have been erroded by Ward and Alvarez- however it’s a very tough ask.

He actually turned down a fight with Kovalev at around the same time so...

Let's not even get into all the other fights he's turned down.

Imagine actually giving him credit for this, good lord. 99% if this forum would fight Kovalev for a million bucks.

It would be a monumental upset, despite the fact that Kovalev is on the slide. Even if Kovalev doesn't get the knockout, I can see him comfortably out boxing Yarde over the 12. I see Yardes only chance of winning is by stopping Kovalev.

    Great day for sport though.

    Saints v Leeds final
    Liverpool v Arsenal
    Kovalev v Yarde.

All perfectly timed. I'm going to be ruined like!
