I can't remember a SHW that had a reputation as a MASSIVE banger as much as Majidov, maybe ever. The amount of stoppage wins on his ledger are astonishing, and he did it in a HIGHLY competitive area and on the international scene against the best AM's in the world. But @CST80 is right, he really needs to get cracking. I wish Savon turned pro, but that doesnt look like it will happen.
WTF is going on out there?!?! It's almost like everyone from Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushettia, the whole north caucas region is an absolute grave digging puncher. And its a specific type of power from certain punches, a lot of them have grenades in their hands when they throw rounded punches like hooks.
They're mountain people; thick set, big wrists, dense bones, strong shoulder/back/neck/trap muscles. Military wise they're pretty ruthless too. Read about a guy called Hamzat Gelayev; the Russians nicknamed him the "Black Angel" because he was such an effecient mujahideen. You simply do not mess with these people, their women or their honour. They'll tear you apart and feed you to their pet bear.
Bitter sweet. Really liked him in the amateurs but I have the feeling he's left it too late. He needs to get a move on, his style is certainly made for the pro's and will guarantee some fun fights however far he gets.
They could move him like Lomachenko, he doesn't need "learning" fights, he has been fighting people equivalent to the top pros for years. All he needs is to adapt to the slower pace of professional boxing and potentially longer fights. He could fight anybody in his first pro fight. Another good heavyweight added to a deep heavyweight division.
Those places are shitholes, so to speak. It's rough out there and it takes a certain type to climb to the top. The rougher the region, the tougher the people(usually). MixedMollyWhoppery did a great piece on Dagestan. This content is protected Another great mini documentary which explains just where some of these crazy guys come from: This content is protected
Loma lost to Salido and just recently 2x Olympic Gold medalist, Robeisy RamÃrez, lost his pro debut. There is a learning curve to be had. Majidov needs to keep extremely active. It will build up experience, keep him sharp and most importantly; build notoriety. One of the best ways to gain some relevancy in boxing is to win fights, regardless of whom you beat.
Should have turned pro after winning his third world championship in 2017, wasted two years. Still I can't wait to see him fight against a solid heavyweight in the pros.
