Bruce Seldon and Dave Boy McAuley in my lifetime stand out.

Frank Bruno in Tyson 2 less so,

Is Hagler the best ? I just realized that’s a bold statement

Probably. He just looked so effortless doing it and he looked almost orthodox even when he was a southpaw so it never really stood out that he was switching stance. A nightmare for his opponents though.

Here’s another question...is it even accurate to describe Marvin Hagler as a southpaw? He’s naturally right handed...and being able to switch back and forth so effortlessly and effectively was such a huge part of his game....

Yes, I think so in that he fought southpaw as his 'standard' stance (although he switched regularly)... but you're right that he was a converted southpaw and so that's probably why he looked almost orthodox in that stance, like I said - because he was naturally right-handed.

    A switch-hitting converted southpaw then!

    Inoue does it best today.
Hagler the best? Maybe. But that's only coz I can't name anyone better. He was pretty poor as an orthodox against Leonard

Yeah, he was terrible as an orthodox in the Leonard fight, but he never usually fought out of an orthodox stance alone and for so long. He'd usually switch in and out of it from a southpaw base.

When he stayed in an orthodox stance for a longer time he didn't always do so well - watch the Hearns fight and Al Bernstein makes this observation. He didn't stay in it for a full round in the Hearns fight and then switched back to southpaw when orthodox wasn't working and started landing on Hearns again. In the Leonard fight, of course, he stubbornly refused to switch stance for several rounds even though his tactics weren't working. It was uncharacteristic of him to do that but shows how much Leonard had got to him.

That's a good point, he gave away the first few rounds fighting orthodox.
