Wlad Klitschko is a good example. I read an article calling him the David Hasselhoff of HW boxing while he was active , id compare him more to Sven Ottke personally or a even modern day Joe Bugner.
No shame being compared to Bunger of course as he was quite a good HW.

Klitschko most would agree is overrated because he was very one dimensional , prone to panic , had an average ring IQ and struggled massively with persona non grata's like Sam Peter.
Not to mention getting blown away by Sanders and Brewster , then avoiding the immediate rematches .
True greats avenge losses in he immediate rematches. Wlad never did.

The most glaring and obvious reason as to why he's overrated is of couse the copious amouts of fouling he relied on to stay ontop of the worst HW division known to man.
Imo he never beat anybody a Fury or Wilder couldn't beat and we saw Joshua beat and stop Povetkin without ever committing any illegal octopus tactics!

 

Dempsey, Foreman. I wouldn't rank them in All-Time P4P Top 500, and they are ranked #4 and #8 at HW by IBRO.

 

He was quite far from being most overrated, but I must mention Mike Tyson. Though he was unquestionably a very great fighter, I read too often declarations of him being the greatest or very close to (I do have him number 10).

Fighters like Ali (of course), Louis, Holmes, Lewis, Holyfield, Foreman...all greater fighters imo (in Foreman's case, blowing away two undeniable ATGs and being old as hell yet winning the title back supersede Tyson's accomplishments imo).

Just me, and I'm sure I'll heard detractors. All respect to fans, and I should mention I've gained admiration for Mike since I've been here.

 

Not just that, but imo Ali mostly dominated that fight. Check out the first round, does anyone believe Foreman won that round (unless we're practicing the de riguer give-the-champ-the-benefit-of-a-doubt). As undeniably Great as George was, Ali made him look shockingly bad at some point in every round.

I was a young dude at the time, and the eventual knockout wasn't a surprise to those who watched the fight live. Foreman was done about two rounds before that, and he mostly only punched arms and air in that battle (in fact, I'm not sure he landed even three punches flush in the whole fight).

After the annihilation-fest that was George Foreman as champ in the 70s, Ali's victory was as notable as any in heavyweight history (second only to the FOTC imo).

 

Second career George Foreman. A one dimensional power puncher and nothing else.

 

Given how tough George had it against Qawi, Stewart, Schulz, and Morrison I feel you. However, George did win the title twice, second time was a seemingly impossible endeavor. And he did massacre two muthahumpin' ATGs. There were heavyweights whom were less accomplished and yet received raves...look at Mike (whose biggest win by far was over a light heavyweight and won back the title from a real loser).

For folks whom call Bowe overrated, give another gander at the first Holyfield fight.

Holyfield was still very much in his prime and would have beaten more than a few ATGs that night.

Foreman struggled with Qawi? That's news to me. He dominated in a fight against opponent who couldn't hurt him.

 

How many punches did you see him throwing a round vs Moran? You saw punches that did not exist. We went over this. A fighter who throws less than 20 punches a round vs a mediocre title opponent and could not hurt him isn’t beating many greats. Johnson edges Moran he did not dominate him.

Yes he was hurt vs Ketchel. He says so and those at ring side said he was in a daze. If I show you this can you change opinion?

You did not research what the people at ringside said about the Flynn fight, did you? It’s an older thread here read it.

 

You might want to watch it again, my friend. Big George took way too many shots and, as Bowe noted, it sure took him a long time to knock out Dwight...and Dwight on his best day was nowhere near even a Ken Norton imo.

This is coming from someone for whom Foreman is second only to Larry as my favorite fighter, ever.
