    I don't think Cooney was overrated at all before the Holmes fight...despite his taking all that time off before the fight.

    People talk about how he beat Young, Lyle, and Norton well in to their declines. That is probably true to a point, but it's more about how badly he wiped them out than their career place. He annihilated them in a way that more than one sports writer paralleled with classic Foreman (even Sports Illustrated predicted Larry would fall in 2).

    Cooney just plain had the credentials...though only at that point in time.

    Post-Holmes oh yeah, overrated. The Spinks and Foreman fights proved that.

    Jack Dempsey,The Manassa Mauler began fighting weighing in the ,163 / 165lbs range.
    Jack Dempsey The Non Pareil was generally inside the welterweighl imit when defending his middleweight title, the limit for which then was then154lbs/
    For instance Dempsey scaled only half a pound over the welterweight limit when defending his middleweight title against Fitzsimmons ie 147 1/2lbs
    Now who's the fool?LOL

    Cooney was very carefully brought along. Purpose being to be able to cash in fighting Holmes. Gerry was a very hard punching hwt that lacked durability.

    I watched it like 5 times. It's your time to tell me what exect round Johnson lost. Show me moments when Johnson struggled on the tape. Not some biased articles, show me the tape.

    Johnson never “struggled” against Moran. Moran struggled to land leading to him FINALLY landing one clean punch mid fight. Johnson stepped back and clapped his gloves together smiling...”YEAH YOU FINALLY LANDED A BLOW”. Johnson’s bout with Moran like his bout with Flynn in 1912 were one sided affairs. Moran tried to fight at distance and failed while Flynn fought inside and was beaten to a pulp and failed.

    Maybe many overrated him cause he had a not good looking style like his brother and or simply cause he was not american.
