Kovalev and Ward are both atg fighters.

Who's on there's not got a deep résumé? I agree Kovalev would beat most of them.

DM is probably got the weakest résumé on there but he has a win over prime Virgil Hill and 20 title defences

    Let's look at it...

    Campillo KO (neutral)
    Cleverly KO (away)
    Hopkins UD (away)
    Pascal KO (away)
    Chilemba UD (home)
    Ward UD* (away)
    Alvarez KO (neutral)
    Yarde KO (home)

Other opponents like Boone, White, Caparello, Sillakh, Mohammedi, Shabranskky also got iced. Two legit losses to Ward & Alvarez, but he beat both so was never conclusively bettered by anyone.

Real record is 38 fights, 36 wins, 2 losses (one with a dubious ending)

who did virgil hill beat? lost against a way past prime hearns at his own weight class, very good win over henry maske, two good wins tiozzo in his backyeard, tates a good fighter not a lhw though, lost his two biggest fights against DM and jones jr. doesnt look half as scary as prime Krusher. Not as dominant, performances more scattered. Kovalevs performances have been very dominant when he wins.

Antonio Tarver was the first man to shatter Roy jones, I fancy kovalev to do that x2, if he got the ko in the 1st hed get the ko in the second. He then beat contender Clinton Woods, solid fighter nowhere near world level, Easily schooled by BHOP, 1-1 against johnson isnt anything to write home about, then comfortably beat my Chad Dawson.
    not a deep lhw resume!

alot of the others i havent watched, but alot of older resumes are really fluffed up, a few scattered ATGs then filled with bums.

Do you class Marquez as an all time great? Because if you say yes it would be awfully hard to not class Kovalev one as well.

That's ridiculous. Marquez is a multi div champion who knocked out Pacquiao.

Not quite for me, there's no doubt he's the most accomplished and the best LHW of 2010's.
But never fighting Stevenson, another great contemporary LHW hurts him (as it does hurt Stevenson).

    I think yes. ATG 175lb.

Beat ward, beat cleverly, smashed racist bhop.
Fought everyone in division no question asked.

He knocked out Pac only after the smaller man had moved up from 112 to 147 and was worn torn.

Its much easier to be a multi weight champ at lower weights.

If Marquez is ATG so is Kovalev.

I would think getting beaten down and quitting against Ward would take the shine off his close loss to Ward.

No, but that's not a knock on Kovalev. There are only a few fighters who are ATGs every generation.

    He is not remotely ATG.

Made my top fifty at light-heavyweight, I think at #41.

My ATG ranking of Kovalev is intermediate between @CST80 & @minemax

What is certain that Kovalev is past his prime, based on that
    • If Kovalev wins any fight from here on he gets credit...
    • If Kovalev loses any fight...winner gets appropriate credit but no full credit for a win vs an ATG...Pacman vs DLH...Camacho vs SRL

An ATG is just an opinion but to me anyway it's a fighter who could stack up in any era & who matched & beat the best of his own.. people have other criteria sure but ultimately Kovalev fits both of those IMO
