I mean...yeah, Froch & Kessler probably rate higher on any reasonable SMW list than Kovalev does on any reasonable one at light heavy...but we're talking an "original eight" division with over a century of rich history and one that has existed for a couple of decades...kind of kumquats and oranges... Just curious, do you consider lots of daylight to exist between Krusher and Cobra/Viking Warrior in a p4p sense? ie, on a scale of 1-10 do you have them more than a couple of points higher than him?
To.be honest, I didn’t put that much thought into it, My reflex answer to whether Kovalev was an atg was hell no and it still seems like a good answer to me.
IMO all four are clear All Time Greats. And I don't really like Froch nor Ward very much. (while I'm notoriously a raging fan-boy of Kessler, and moderately big fan of Kovalev). I can't fathom thinking any of the four is "perhaps short of HOF" status..
What did Ward do since the SS, Where he fought every fight at home ?? He fought 4 times in over 5 years against journeymen. Then at last he met Kovalev. Ward was given a gift decision he did not deserve. Then the rematch?? One of the dirtiest displays Ive seen in years from Ward attacking Kov's testes at every opportunity while ref Tony Weekes looked the other way. Weekes was right to stop the fight when he did BUT not to give Ward the win he should have DQ'd the despicable, obnoxious, hypocritical POS
How? Froch and Kessler both had much better careers than Kov has to date. Kovs best wins are ancient Hopkins and past prime, blown up Pascal.
Like all fighters he took liberties at times. But was he really DIRTY!! like Ward ?? No Ward headbutted blatantly hit low & got away with it
When did you ever see B Hop start from round one & continually low blow his opponent throughout the fight? Finally a salvo in the testes & the ref awards him a TKO win ?? NEVER When did you ever see him repeatebly heatbutt an oppponent like Ward did cutting his face to ribbons
Kesslers best win was Froch, and Froch best win was Kessler. These two arent as special as Kovalev, not even close.
