12 I'll take a Cabelo MD. Briscoe hurts Canelo often and so has a case for rounds (hence MD) but Canelo's boxing takes the close fight Other 15 Briscoe gets him out. He'd have Canelo hurt and gassing before delivering something big that knocks him right out of the ring
Briscoe definitely has skill that matches, or even exceeds, Canelo's. However, even at his best there were times he wasn't busy enough. Good clash of styles I feel.
Great fight actually, I'd bet. Alvarez's slug feet, one of his weaknesses, aren't going to be as much of a hindrance against an aggressive fighter like Briscoe. I agree that Briscoe would probably overhaul him late because of his greater work rate and stamina/endurance. An exhaustion stoppage over 15 is possible but Alvarez has a bloody good chin and is gritty, and Bennie wasn't a LaMottaesque swarmer; his work rate was pretty constant but a tad one paced and he could have the odd lazy spell himself. I'd give Alvarez a good chance over 10 actually but much less so over 15. Briscoe UD15.
Briscoe stops him late.Boxing was a lot tougher back then.Canelo is an example of a perfectly promoted fighter but he is not exactly what they wants us to believe.
I can’t say how Canelo would adapt and fare in a 15 rounder...but as much as it pains me to say it, Canelo should be able to win this over 12. I would say Canelo 8-4/7-5 type of UD. I don’t see either guy getting stopped by the other.
I’m never the type to call for old timer bias, but c’mon. A Middleweight contender who lost over 25% of his fights vs the current pound for pound #1? People really must hate Canelo.
There is definitely this narrative on this forum, you take a fighter from the past and he over time gets overrated and overrated to the point where you forget about what they actually look like in the ring and you just see him in a fantasy match up and you automatically pick him because you’ve created this image of how good he was on your head when in reality they are not this ‘unbeatable in today’s era’ Canelo beats him undoubtedly, Canelo is like 176lbs in the ring at Middleweight, Canelo has nearly every advantage and the styles massively favour him, Canelo is way bigger than him, has faster hand, sharper counterpuncher, way better defensively and probably more power just due to the size, Briscoe may hit harder for his weight, but Canelo is far bigger, the styles favour Canelo because he has every advantage and Briscoe is a brawler who would just come at Canelo and Briscoe is like 15lbs lighter than him and slower, and Canelo has the better technique, Canelo would hit at will and that is not good for someone who is so much smaller than him and would easily counter him, that spells recipe for disaster Briscoe was a contender and Canelo is top 5 at least p4p at the moment
