Ward did what he was best at,shutting the opposition down.Had he not done that I'm not sure he'd of been competitive as Kovalev looked so superior at range.
Can't stand Ward but he's one tough sob.

I agree, and I'm both loving the hell out of it and hating the hell out of it at the same time. It literally causes me physical and emotional discomfort almost nausea since I'm such a huge Kovalev fan. But when he wins the high or elation is all the more thrilling and satisfactory, almost like you've been through an emotionally distressing but cathartic film.

Although I will disagree with you on one thing, he still controls range very well and is rarely in range to be hit. It's just when he gets hit, he doesn't react well to it and it makes those moments stand out more, even though they're few and far between.

Kovalev still has a truly great jab and as such causes problems for Canelo but there's no doubt we are seeing a shadow of his former self which of course is why Canelo wants his name on his resume.
Standard thing in boxing to take on guys at the opportune time but Canelo is getting a bit too obvious about it.
Can't blame Kovalev wanting the pay day but I'd rather him decline it.

This is why I'm not fussed about seeing it as he either gets stuffed or gets hurt(lol how many times have I predicted a Canelo knockout and they never happen).

There's a first time for everything. Not to say it again but I'll say it again, weight divisions exist for a reason. Canelo has no power at middleweight he'll have the power of flyswatter at light heavyweight. Kovalev batters him from pillar to post.

If he really thinks that was prime wlad he needs to stop using whatever he’s on.

That's a very questionable statement. Anyway, Kovalev is different now, so are his fights.

Kovalev is an old boxer already, but let's say he's disciplined (well, at least he tries to be ) now and he's got an experienced nutritionist in his team to help him to maintain a healthy weight. Younger Kovalev had more energy and desire to prove that he's the best, but always was plagued by weight, alcohol issues, conflicts with his trainers, etc.

And now let's imagine how young but disciplined Kovalev (with a good nutritionist and trainer to help him) could have looked like...

I never found him entertaining, but I watched him though. He was always a flawed fighter who got over on his heavy hands, and jab and grab style. Like Wlad I waited until he came up against a guy who could take his punch, get on the inside and work him over. Instead of losing decisions he was stopped. I respect him, but he's still a seriously flawed fighter.

I'm glad that he has McGirt in his corner now. We will see how far he goes. He can't teach him t fight inside but he can teach him some veteran moves to hide flaw. Wlad turned himself into an atg, and he used his reach to dominate for years. But he was a big heavy. At LHW, can Kovalev do the same? It remains to be seen.

    Wow...

Kovalev has been one of the most entertaining fighters of this decade. Top 5, easily.

    To you maybe, not me.
There are a host of fighters that's you're missing when you make a broad statement like that.
