The super 6 was a way to get the co favorites abraham and kessler exposure to the American public. Thats really what the tournament was about to make both draws here in America but it didnt work out because ward had other plans.

Against Froch, Ward lost 5 rounds out of 12 on two of the cards. Don't forget the facts.

Ward is a great fighter and a sure fire first ballot HOF'er. As for an ATG, that's more difficult to say. If we are talking top 100, you could argue that his resume is a little weak. He beat many top fighters, and apart from the first Kovalev fight, he beat most of them clearly. However, due to injuries and contact disputes, he did have a long barren period during his prime years. Also, a Bute and Stevenson win would have greatly added to his resume. So too would have fighting Dawson at 175.

However, what does help his case in a conversation in regards to ATG is that he has ATG talent and skills. H2H, in the SMS division, he takes Eubank, Benn, Collins, Ottke and Liles. He would also give Calzaghe, Jones Jr, and Toney a good fight. He may not beat those last three, but none of them beat Ward easily.

I wouldn't rate him as high all time in the LHW division due to his lack of time there, plus, H2H, there are far more beasts in this divisions history due to it being around a lot longer. But, if there is a list of all time LHW's that could quite easily beat Ward, I imagine that list would be pretty short.

I think most people think that those score cards were a joke. I'm a Brit, so I wanted Froch to win, but Ward beat him easily and made Froch look like a crude amateur.

Find another sport you know zero about boxing.

    GGG is nowhere near Ward.

"Most people" also think Ward lost to Kovalev in the first fight.

GGG is not an ATG in my book.

Where I would place him based on IFs, is not the issue here.

Ward's best win is Kov, and it was pretty clear that this was a gift. I have pointed to the ringside scores and Ward himself was shocked when the scores were announced.

Your man Floyd scored the fight for Kov.

If you take away that 'win' do you still think Ward merits ATG status ?

He was an great super MW, maybe 3 at the weight.

We don't have a definition for ATG, so the argument is a bit meaningless, but my list of ATGs includes the likes of SRL, Hearns, Duran, Hagler, Toney, Lewis, Wlad, RJJ, JCC, Pea, Floyd, Pac, Oscar, Shane etc.

Calzaghe is on the cusp, a maybe.

    Ward is not there yet.

Ward is not in the all time great realm in my estimation. He does not have enough to get there. He never took that big step to prove it, even if he lost. I think losing and taking the step means something. Comparing him to Ray is not abnormal. It is comparing a guy who had a short career with another guy with a short career, but Ray is great because he fought the best of the best.. He had the fighters to fight. Ward was about 10 fights from being a great. And that is fighting the top guys and moving up in weight and taking his lumps to get that status.

all those guys had long careers of ups and downs and the levels they fought. Ward seems lacking compared to them. The superfights. Something is lacking.

I haven't Philly, maybe schooled is the wrong word...but Ward was playing with Froch. At no time was ward in top gear ...lets be honest he walked through a very limited (but very tough) froch, that all Froch had endurance & a chin...which came apart when young George connected but lets not talk facts as I do't want you getting all Homotional...Philly

Both were fouling in Maidana/Floyd but nothing like the blatant low blows Ward was throwing. They were BLATANT & he totally ignored them. Watch the fight again round 1 Weekes warned Ward with a " Keep em up". From then on he ignored the fouls. Was he told to ignore them ?? Looks mighty suspicious
