As per Kovalev's trainer Buddy McGirt, the increasingly faded looking Kovalev is apparently open to reopening talks with Canelo and fighting at a catch weight.

Is this the only way they think they can still make this fight? Does Canelo want another catchweight bout on his record? Is this Kovalev looking to cash out?

    Answers on a postcard please.

Anyone with half a brain saw this coming from a mile away. Kovalev is done and is looking to cashout and give into any absurd demands that fishnets and co. make. Canelo is daring to be great though! Totally not a calculated risk against a rapidly declining champion.

This is ***** ridiculous. Kovalev is already slim as it is, imagine dropping down to 167 :ohno

Canelo will not get any credit from me if he asks or makes Kovalev fight him at a catch weight. I mean did he forget about Ward Dawson!? Is the money that enticing that you'll fight at a catchweight and possibly ruin your career reputation with 1 fight? Nah, I'd tell Canelo to fight me at 175 or no fight.

I doubt it'll happen. McGirt just said its on the table. There's a ways to go in the negotiations. But if it is at a catchweight, then it's pointless cash grab by Kovalev. Still will be rooting hard for him though.

I'd rather see Canelo face Smith at 168 but I doubt that fight happens due to rehydration clauses.

If Kov fights Moonelo in Vegas we all know he could win 10 out of 12 rounds & still lose by SD. Just like Mayweather was
the cash cow is not allowed to lose in Vegas

Yeah no way. Smith is gigantic and would keep Clenelo on the outside. Fishnets would have to drain Smith to the point where he was an ineffective zombie in order for them to take the fight.

    It's not just a catchweight — there will be a bone-rattling, knee-buckling rehydration clause.

kovalev could realistically drop some bodyfat (he looks around 12%-15%), if he kept training between camps.

If Canelo wants to fight a SMW then fight Smith or Saunders! Kovalev is a LHW.. Canelo talked the fight up so why do they now want to drain him? What's the point in weight jumping if you're just making up your own weights?! Either do it legit or stay put.. stop trying to stack the ****ing deck

172Lbs is bang in the middle of 168-175. I could live with that and don't think Kovalev would be too depleted and far from prime condition, especially with an early day before weigh -in. Doubt Canelo would go with that though. I reckon his catchweight proposition would be 169 pounds.
