No, some fighters don`t put all their weight into their punches, Canelo is punching harder now than he did before.
It's clearly largely about biomechanics and technique can refine this. But just as some people can throw a baseball harder from the beginning because of their musculature/ligaments/skeletal structure, some can punch harder. Just as massive servers for their height like Roddick exist, massive punchers must exist. If every male tennis player could just learn Roddick's technique from childhood, they'd all be bomb servers, but apparently it doesn't work like that. There are plenty of MMA fighters that show the punching spectrum, they have wrestling backgrounds and suddenly discover they have a KO punch without much training by boxing standards and fall in love with their striking. Then people like Ben Askren admit they can't punch so great and stick to wrestling. I'd say there's plenty of evidence it's mostly natural, but another factor to consider is the style a fighter uses, because that can impact the result. Fighters can choose whether to plant/load up or not, some have good power but are more reserved with it. Others base their entire game around bombs, like Wilder.
I truly believe you are born with power. Yes of course it can be harvested through strength training and correct technique but I've no doubt in my mind, boxers are born with it
Or Sam Peter! Peter & Maidana IMO loop their shots as a result can drop or daze their foe with a shot to the side of their dome. At least that is how I saw Klitschko being dropped by Peter. Same with Toney, the shot that hurt him Peter II wasn't thrown straight at all. They were landing on the side of the head, top of the head. Floyd vs Maidana took more shots on his head. But man, if Peter knew HOW to throw with technique, IMO he would have lasted longer as champ. And some of the shots Shavers threw when he got tired....look like a club fighter!
I’m not disagreeing with you. Obviously not literally, everyone who is throwing a punch is doing something right because they are ‘throwing a punch’, and everyone is applying a force to a greater or lesser extent. There’s not a switch, if you’re throwing a punch you have punching technique of some sort, otherwise you wouldn’t know it was a punch.
Absolutely, that's exactly how I see him. He's an athletic freak the likes of which we may not have ever seen before in boxing. Truly frightening power.
