WBC lightweight title eliminator, on the Daniel Román vs. Murodjon Akhmadaliev undercard (along with Michael Hunter vs. Sergey Kuzmin in the rare but of somewhat compelling matchmaking at heavyweight). Abdullaev is ranked #4 and Haney is ranked #2 by the WBC.
This could be a good fight, huh? He's got wins over Berrio and Lundy, if that means much. I haven't seen any of him. Haney by wide decision or ... ?
Zaur will keep most rounds close, he's decent, controls range quite well and has fairly good timing, he may even steal a few rounds, but his lack of power and lack of speed will do him in. But he seems to have a solid chin. Overall, he's never really impressed me all that much. So Haney will most likely win by wide UD, possibly late stoppage.
When it comes to Haney, unlike most I have singularly not drunk the Kool-aid ..but he will razzle-dazzle with speed en route to a mid-round stoppage IMO...and I won't be too upset about it either. (Whenever the choice is between rooting for a countryman versus rooting for a militant Islamist of Dagestani or Chechen stock, you bet your ass I bleed red white & blue - and shit whole apple pies! #bostonstrong)
Probably has something to do with him turning pro at 17. Likely has some connections which made it worthwhile to return to Mexico.
Yeah, here in the US you have to be 18 unless you get a very rare special dispensation to debut younger (like José Benavidez Jr. did)
I largely agree. Personally, I think Ennis is the superior prospect, but I suspect Haney will have too much speed and athleticism for this kid. Haney via UD. (Back at ya on Boston strong).
Haney by my projection will prove far less of an unsubstantiated-hype bust than, say, Felix Verdejo, but I'm still not sold on him proving greater than someone like Teo L. in the grand scheme.
This is the second time this year a card with Devin Haney and Michael Hunter on it has lost it's main event. Creepy!
