so there are quotes from Joe Gallagher saying that Callum is unhappy with Eddie Hearns because of the lack of profile he currently has, feels like he should be bigger than he is Now im not the biggest Hearns fan, but what does Callum expect? He took 9 MONTHS off after winning the WBSS, that for me is what completely killed his momentum. That wasnt Hearns choice, Hearns would have had him out after 3 months if he could And its not like he hasnt had offers, Callum and Joe turned down BJS without Hearns even knowing, OG Frank sent the offer directly to Joe. Beating BJS on BT Sport PPV would have raised Callums profile, and given him a 7 figure pay day. But he turned it down. Just sounds to me like Callum wants to be a big name, but also take long breaks between fights, and also not fight risky fights like BJS. You cant have it all Callum.
I agree that effectively going underground for the better part of a year after the Groves fight really did kill his momentum. I don’t blame him getting frustrated and wanting bigger fights but he can’t blame Hearn for his lack of profile
Hearn hasnt done a great job with Callum, he was sitting as a mando for the best part of 3 years before the WBSS came knocking. Really odd how Hearn has promoted him imo cant quite fathom what's gone on.
Said a little while ago that he should of tried to get a fight against Kovalev at LHW. It would of been a smart fight to make and one he could of won. His career is going to end up like Kell Brooks if he isn't careful. Quite lucky that the SMW division is incredibly weak right now. His best win to date is Groves who was past his best and coming back off a serious injury, it was a high profile win that should of launched him forward and upwards (e.g. A potential fight with Kovalev). As it is, his last fight was against an old career middleweight. I think he is dangerous fighter as he carrys decent power but he is overrated ability wise, he was losing rounds to Groves before the stoppage. Then his fights against the former kickboxer and Skoglund, also lost quite a few rounds in that fight. I don't buy into the fact he can only motivate himself for better fighters, I just think he's in the Gallagher mould and only so far he can go like all his fighters. Been waiting for a Canelo fight, not going to happen now and Canelo probably won't fight again until next May if he fights in November / December, then theres the potential for the 3rd fight with GGG. He's also got Ryder to take care off in the meanwhile if I'm not mistaken? So that's potentially another year until a big fight for him. So he could be looking at from 2 years of winning the WBSS to fighting N'Dam, someone else and Ryder (if he doesn't fight Eubank). All this in probably his prime years also. Only the Ryder fight holds some interest for me, as I would like to see him finally get a deserved opportunity.
I will be shocked if bully joe and Callum don't see sense and make this tbh.unification, ppv, career high paydays for both.why wouldn't they.
Because BJS would effectively be fighting someone two weight divisions above him. Also neither are exactly household names that flog thousands of tickets and ppvs.
Well he should go back to 160 then if he doesn't want to fight huge super middles.it would be a big fight here and would do well ppv.
Smith should be grateful, thanks to Hearn he was allowed to enter the WBSS for which he was grossly overpaid.
