When someone hero fighter gets smashed why do a fewpeople react by saying "X never really beat Y" ?

If the fights close enough to be argued either way it's not really a huge knock on there legacy, unless it'd be there biggest win.

Arguing about clear cut wins, Ie Pacquiao Marquez 4, Lewis Klitschko or Mayweather Del a Hoya is ridiculous. Just accept your boys lost or that someone you don't like won. It's not that bad

 

WAS the Klitschko fight a clear win for Lewis? I had the former ahead (ducks just in case).

 

A cuts stoppage is a stoppage. Fair and Clear, also the state of Vitali's face was clearly not fit to carry on.

People don't like it because they can't face the fact that an old out of shape Lewis smashed the fake aura of invincibility that Vitali had. And didn't like that he was completely justified in retiring without the rematch

 

I honestly thought besides the cut Klitschko was winning. He's one of the few fighters who made LL look bad for more than one round.

But that's just the way I see it, all respect George.

 

I see it similarly, in my eyes he was 4-2 up but a stoppage whilst down on the cards is a genuine win. Just think Lewis doesn't get the credit he should be getting for it, as a win and a stoppage. He showed brutal power and a better than advertised chin in that fight

 

He did all those things, I agree. But I had LL winning only one round, and that was close.

Imo LL should have just passed on that fight. In my eyes it didn't help his status as ATG at all.

He'd already won so MANY fights against excellent fighters, of course.

 

The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was Lewis seemed on board to rematch told him to prove himself vs Johnson then we can fight

I don’t think Lewis retires if Kirk Johnson reopens the cut and wins. I think Lewis was still trying to rematch Tyson if I remember correctly.

This post isn’t to discredit the win or call Lewis a ducker

 

But to avoid turning this thread into a vit len thread it’s disappointing I feel the worst of it are the pacquiao fans after the Floyd loss. Golovkin fans are pretty bitter about the second Alvarez fight and kovalev fans keep crying about ward 2.

People need to move on

That would have been wise. Lewis was old.

Here we differ. I think Vitali was winning the fight until the stoppage. I think he would have won a rematch.

BUT.

Lewis DID get the stoppage, it was a justified doctor stoppage (even though I think Vitali may well have finished him next round, Lennox had nothing in the tank) and if I were the doc I would probably have stopped it too. Stopping an ATG H2H guy like Vitali when he himself was past it is HUGE.

Yeah, I'm sour there never was the promised rematch. That's life.

 

You can't ignore the PED controversy that surrounded JMM in the fight. Every single media outlet took note of his bulked out physique and suspicious hiring of a PED expert. 2 fights later, JMM showed up to the Alvarado fight with a million pimples on his chest and back.

You also can't ignore Mayweather's use of illegal IV fluids. Mayweather would later accuse McGregor of cheating with... IV fluids. He even went as far as to call the use of IV fluids illegal.

In doing so, you are being disingenuous and reveal a personal agenda.

 

You're right of course. On-paper/objectively it was a win. And not a win like Spinks-Holmes II, not a robbery. LL still had flashes of greatness.

I personally thought Klitshko's rating went UP after that fight, win or no.

Also really weird when some people get a sense of overwhelming happiness when a fighter they don’t like for no particular reason loses. All very weird.

 

I agree. I think both their stocks went up. That was a brutal, nasty fight and they both showed that they truly had the heart to power through when everything was falling apart.
