Alexander Povetkin vs Hughie Fury - Predictions

There are exceptions to the 30 year fighter always being better than when they was 35 years old.

Yes there are some fighters who are mentally stronger, and experience more than makes up for their loss of physical prime. However I am yet to see a 40 year old fight who is better than they were at 35. There are some exceptions of fighters who are better at 35 than they were at 30. However we are referring to a 40 year old Povetkin, who looks in very poor shape and is in against a guy noted for his ability to evade insider fighting and ability to run. So its not a good style match up at his age of physical condition

Look at Chisora, his by far 2 best career wins came the age at 34 and 35 and Chisora looks better than ever now.

Chisora's career best win was over Malik Scott when he was 29. His career best performance is widely considered to be in his loss to Vitali Klitschko when he was 29.

I would argue Lewis was in his prime 32-36.

Agree 100% on Lewis. His prime was when he was 34-35. In the wins over Holyfield and Grant, that was his absolute overall mental and physical PEAK,

Liston was 32 when beat Patterson.

No one knows Listons real age. I wasnt around at the time so I wont comment on his case.

Wlads best peformances were against Haye, Povetkin and Pulev when he was between 35-37.

Wlad was absolutely past prime when he beat Pulev and Povetkin. No doubt. The Pulev win was his last decent win, and that came partly as a result of Pulev's suicidal tactics that night. The last decent performance of his was against Haye at 35.

Having followed Wlads career very closely, his prime for me was 2006-2009 when he was 30-33. That was his mental and physical peak sweet spot

Hopkins was 39 years old when he beat a 31 year old ODH and Hopkins was 36 when he beat 28 year old Trinidad.

Hopkins was definitely strong still at an older age. But the physical deterioration he was clearly showing, was covered up by his skill and experience.

Calzaghe past 30 when he had his two best wins over prime fighters. Calzaghe was 35 when beat a 28 year old Kessler and 33 when he beat a 28 year old Lacey.

Those big name wins came for Calzaghe late on only because he was facing bums for so long. I have no doubts in my mind if he had stepped up earlier he would have had big name wins at a younger age.

However Povetkin does seem to be in decline ever since post Duhaupas fight

Povetkin was gassed against AJ after 4 rounds. Looking at the weigh in video he looks fat and reeks of a fighter coming for a pay day. Against Pricey he was wobbled badly, and looked poor. He looked mediocre against Hammer. Povetkin is done at 40.

A 36 year old Povetkin would have jumped on Hughie and got an early KO. Not this version.

 

Looks like there has been some weird betting behavior in this match, the odds on Hughie KO2 have plummeted quite a bit.

 

Unless Hughie’s punch output increases significantly he will lose.

 

Totally disagree about Thompson being a more impressive wi than Takam.

Takam had never been a easy night work for anyone. Takam tooks round off Parker (i had Parker winning 8 -4 in a competitve fight).Nearly went the distance with AJ and proved to be AJ most awkward opponent he faced until then. Takam took a few rounds of Povetkin in a competitve fight before Sasha KOed him. Takam was beating Chisora quite convincingly before he gassed and was KO'ed. I would say Takams best win was Thompson. M.Scott also best win was Thompson but Takam beat him much more convincingly and a year earlier too.

 

Yes he's old and yes he's been inactive but fair play to H. Fury for taking it. If it turns out hes fighting a washed up guy that credit shouldn't be taken away.

I can see Fury KO'd.

 

I would say his 3 hardest opponents over the last couple of years match up to anyone in the division (including Povetkin fight).

 

Povetkin on points.

 

If Povetkin doesn't KO Fury first 6 rounds, then Fury could win a decision.

Yeah I got forwarded a WhatsApp voice note of some guy saying its a fixed fight and that Povetkin is going down in the 2nd.

The guy talking sounded like he was a pikey tho, and the skirt would have to actually thrown punches for it to happen.

 

Some of the companies odds have totally crashed when compared to say round 1 or 3.

Like 95% of bets have been on Fury KO Round 2 lol.
