    First off, just want to say I'm a big-time Lomachenko fan. Don't post much anymore, but still follow the big fights when I can.

    As many have already said, this was a closer fight than the scorecards showed, in my opinion. Campbell made Loma look fairly ordinary, which is a HUGE accomplishment. It was a great test for Loma and truly all respect to Luke Campbell for this fight. Never seen any of his matches before, but I'm definitely a fan now.

    I had many of the rounds close. I sincerely thought the fight could be a toss-up (if close rounds were given to Campbell) headed into the 11th round. Then Loma took over.

    Campbell, it could be said, gave the "blueprint" on how to try to defeat Loma. But I'm not sure anyone can actually follow it successfully. You need a granite chin, monster cardio, a long frame, an excellent jab, great movement, good skill, a big heart and you have to go for the points win.

    Amazingly, Campbell was able to execute a good bit of that formula for much of the bout. I was really impressed.

    It's not about Loma being off or anything like that, I don't think, it's really just a testament to Luke Campbell's ability as a fighter, his preparation for this fight and his will to compete.

    One of those fights where both men come out as winners. Great night for the sport.

    "*" = close round on my card

    .........................Loma took the round off
    10 --> 10-9 VL*
    11 --> 10-8 VL
    12 --> 10-8 VL.........................should have been knockdown of LC

    117-109 VL

    If you give all the close rounds to Campbell, then after 10 rounds you have 6-4 for Campbell. And since the bout was in the UK, I was thinking that Loma was really going to have to turn it on late to make sure he secured the victory.

    Fortunately for him and his fans, Loma did just that. He got the deserved win.

    What's amazing about this match was that both fighters fought well and both fought the fight they wanted to fight. That's rarely the case. Loma wanted to let Campbell throw and wear down, and then come on later in rounds and in the fight itself, which he did. And Campbell wanted to stay busy and move and not give Loma a fixed target, which he did. Loma just got a bit more done of what he wanted than Campbell was able to get out of his own gameplan. But Campbell had the gameplan and the goods to back it up.

    An interesting thing about Loma is that he has some very real power. Because his artistry is so incredible, the power that he has sometimes gets lost. But there's concrete in those fists when he wants to have it.

    Again, great night for the sport. Very happy for both guys and looking forward to seeing both of their fights in the future. Campbell can and likely will become a titlist, if he sticks around and wants it.

    We must have watched a different fight cos anyone who thinks this could have been a toss up needs to see an optician

    Not only did he win at least 9 rounds he dropped him & hurt him multiple times.. I didn't see many close rounds.. most of the close rounds I saw were the ones I scored for Luke.. other than that it was pretty clear cut for the most part..

    9/3 Loma though on a second viewing (just got through it again) it looks more like 10/2 Loma

    I gave Campbell round 1 and round 9 which Lomachenko seemed to take off for a breather. Thought LC did well to battle through some tough moments and took some wicked body shots but ultimately he was largely outclassed by a once in a generation, elite fighter.

    LC has nothing to be ashamed of and can definately come again and I think has it in him to win a title against a lesser opponent.

    Peter Kahn, Forbes ----------> 118-109 Loma
    James Brady, SB Nation ----> 119-108 Loma
    Dan Rafael, ESPN ------------> 117-110 Loma. Calls it a "hard fought" win for Loma.

    Rafael tweet on the fight, after being asked how he thought Campbell did:
    "About what I expected -- win a couple of rounds, fight his rear end off but ultimately lose clearly to the best fighter in the world."

    I also had it 9-3. But I thought several of the rounds were close. I agree with the thought that the fight was "closer than the scorecards." It looks like a wipeout on the cards, but I don't think it was anything like that. Although apparently you, and I'm sure others, disagree.

    Loma won, for sure. But usually he's just wiping people out. That was not the case here. Maybe Loma had a bit of an off night. But Campbell deserves respect. He fought a smart, hard fight.

    I pretty much agree with all of this, although I might give Campbell a bit more credit than you do. But I agree with the gist of your points.

    Sky Sports' Johnny Nelson agreed with this take.

    I agree. Although, to be fair, Loma may have been a bit "off" tonight, and I'm not sure anyone in the division could do a better job against Loma than what Campbell did tonight. Campbell fought pretty much a perfect fight, and it still was not enough.

    Aye, don't get me wrong, I thought that LC competed very well in the majority of rounds and looked good when backing Loma up. I just think that Loma's pressure with his footwork made LC a little tentative at times, although I think that if LC had used more offence, I think he would have been countered more often and potentially stopped.

    Great effort by LC and his stock will have definately risen and another few fights against ranked opponents and he's right back in the mix again. A move to 140 might also be worth thinking about as he's a huge 135 lber.

    Agreed on all points. Campbell is gigantic. That's why I don't think anyone else in the division, that I know, can do what he did tonight with Loma. That size makes a big difference. Also his handspeed is good and his chin is good.

    But I agree, if he opened up more Loma would have countered the heck out of him.

    Thanks man. Loma won, no doubt about it.

    You and I like many of the same fighters. I'm not trying to put Loma down in this thread, at all. It's more my appreciation of what Campbell did than anything. He actually gave Loma a fight, which many fighters simply cannot do. Respect.
