Could any other former lightweight champion go 15 rounds with a prime Marvin Hagler?

Armstrong might have a chance of surviving? I really think you'd be hard pressed to find one

 

Armstrong came forwards though Duran didn`t v Hagler or he might have been stopped.

Nope. Duran was unique in that regard (and many others).

 

Who knows? It all depends on whether Hagler gives them too much respect. It’s not like Duran went 15 by fighting an amazing fight and doing things that no mortal former lightweights could do.

I like Pernell Whittaker's chances of going 15. And if Hagler is overthinking it as he occasionally did, I wouldn't rule out a SweetPea win

 

I believe Hagler would have broken Duran in a rematch.

 

Yeah, Hagler was far too cautious against Duran just as he was later on against Leonard. Duran wasn’t big enough or good enough to outbox Hagler at middleweight and he sure as hell wasnt going to knock him out so Hagler should have been far more aggressive and he could have forced a stoppage.

I could maybe see Whitaker doing it if Hagler fought the wrong fight as he was sometimes wont to do and opted to box rather than just go after Pea. Something tells me he wouldn't have the same wariness with Pea that he had with Duran though.

McFarland maybe, unless we qualify him as being too big? He did go the rounds with Gibbons but again, Hagler would need to fight the wrong fight.

I briefly toyed with the idea of Mosley tbh, probably in a moment of madness and immense stupidity. He was around the middleweight limit in his fights above lightweight and had an iron chin, but p4p he was just a level below Hagler at the very minimum and was too easy to hit.

Hagler obviously got it wrong against Duran because of his occasionally dubious ring IQ, but don't anyone tell me it was anything other than a superb achievement on Duran's part. Even fighting conservatively Hagler should still have run him over and it's not uncommon for legendary to have that aura about them even past their best that causes top class opponents to choke a bit. I've lost count of the times I've seen it in several sports in recent years. Federer, Bolt, Phil Taylor at darts etc, they've all managed to register wins where they probably shouldn't have on the intimidation factor alone.
