Could any other former lightweight champion go 15 rounds with a prime Marvin Hagler?

Marvin's weakness against Duran for sitting back and not fighting aggressively is what hurt him against Ray. He fought his best fight with Hearns when he was aggressive, and Hearns stupidly gave him the opportunity to hit him. Marvin still beat Duran in a rather passive give and take sparring match. I don't think he felt Duran was a threat. I think he thought he could sit back and jab and win the fight coasting and avoid the thumbing to Davey Moore. That was on Hagler's mind. If you stand in front of Duran he will hit you, and he even hit Hearns a little. I never said he was not great, but the talk about him here and in other places is rather ridiculous. He is given excuses for clean losses. The punches Hearns hit him with were full impact and full leverage. He can be in shape but getting hit with those punches won't do him any good.. It wouldn't matter.

Thank you. Same here. Nice talking to you again also. Yes, and this is a good escape from **** of life. I like it. At least I don't drink and come on here like I used to. Well I still do it, but not as much. The more I drink the more my post count goes up.

He did fight an amazing fight. He stood right in front of a guy who had destroyed every challenger and was never seriously hurt or wobbled. Hagler only won based on his conditioning. Duran was either ahead or even after 12 rounds.
He pounded Marvin's left eye almost closed, not quite and had cut him over the same eye. Meanwhile Duran didn't have a mark on him.
Hagler didn't show him to much respect. Duran earned that respect by bouncing right hands off his dome. Marvin realized the old man had some pop even at middleweight.
It was a crisp, fast , fight. Duran lost by 1 point against an all-time great 160lber. He fought a remarkable fight.

****in A. IN 1983 AFTER SIBSON AND SCYPION, Hagler was an absolute prime monster. Neither of the other 2 pussies wanted anything to do with him. Duran had the strength and power and fought great. You know after the HagLeo debacle Hag himself said Duran hit him w more right hands and harder.
People just dont want to give Roberto credit. But those of us there from 72- now know the aura and genuine malevolence he carried with him. VIVA ROBERTO!!!! VIVA MACHISMO!!!!!

because I don't buy the stuff about Duran and the excuses for his losses I don't like him? Not true. He has the best personality of the fab 4 and he looks like he would be a great friend to have. He has a lot of spirit for life and boxing. A great instinctive fighter, and as I said he is best at fighting when guys are in his range. I just talk boxing and my opinions have always been what they are. The worst of them? No, let me just say I think Leonard is the best of all of them.

It was an exciting Friday night January 30, 1982. I had me. My wife. Ray Charles. Stevy Wonder. 4 Nation a l League umpires. Helen Keller and the just died 2019 Arty Johnson. Plus the cool ghoul and cliff claven. We all saw Duran winning.

Sweet Pea and possibly Floyd could IMO.

They wouldn't win and would be in survival mode once they got hit but both were fast enough and of course defensively skilled enough to survive.

Very good post and very true. I don't know if it is true about me knowing boxing well. I would never say something like that. I know what I know. I love boxing like all of us do. so it is not about what we know. My points about Duran always was that he was not as little as people thought. Smaller than Hearns, yes,, but than Benitez? Debatable really. Smaller than Ray .. Maybe a little, yet he could weigh more than Ray could later one. I do know Duran could weigh more than all of them in retirement.

Duran turned pro at 126 I believe and fought for a bit at 130. He was the by far the oldest and smallest of the Fab 4. Hagler barely nipped him at the wire.
