Yeah, you really needed boxing skill and endless precise training to fight like Buddy Baer. None of today's boxers have the depth of knowledge or ability necessary to overhook an opponent with one arm and flail away with mostly poorly-leveraged punches with the other. Or to square up and launch two-fisted volleys at close range with reckless abandon while making minimal effort to protect one's face from counterpunches.

    Give me a break.

Basically because of a lack of great trainers. There all gone...no one like Charlie Goldman...Ray Arcel...Whitey Bimstein...Cus D'Amato...Eddie Futch...Emanuel Steward...and the like...is out there. Now it's your Dad...your best friend...a friend of a friend..in your corner...and what the hell do they really know?.etc. There's no one passing on the lessons learned.

do you honestly think that whoever trained Marciano did a great job? He misses with right hands by a foot, he moves his right foot first when moving to the left, he leans at the waist, his footwork/balance are terrible, he does everything that a fighter is taught not to do. What trainer would want to admit that he trained a fighter who does everything wrong. His trainer should have worn a mask into the ring.

I always love these "lost secrets of boxing" posts. Anything that is no longer used in boxing is something that is no longer effective. Nothing has been lost, some things have been replaced.

    Pat M....such a waste.

Marciano is the only undefeated hwt champion. Only one in the entire history of boxing. He did lots right in the ring hence his success. As follows:
