No surprise that most people at a boxing gym picked Ward. I'd be surprised if anybody who understands boxing fundamentals would take RM. Fundamentals, balance, and skills are not optional.
But that just begs the question Who would win between Elite Sugar Ray Leonard and Elite Andre Ward? Set at a catchweight of 164
So, if skill is all it took to beat Marciano, what did Ezzard Charles have? If Ali was the most skilled of heavies who ever bestrode our green earth, what did lil' crippled Joe Frazier have? John David Jackson was skilled as f*ck... but what did Jorge Castro have? It's a game of hit and don't get hit more than you can take in return. There is nothing new about that, nothing revolutionary. Many other factors have changed about the game and when you understand these you see why boxing looks different. But at least when we get beyond the color line, elite is elite. Heavyweight vs. Heavyweight, there is a bit different argument. Otherwise, there really isn't.
