The 9 months out thing is being far too overplayed. How long between Povetkin and Ruiz fights for Joshua? 9 months? Eubank was 7 months for his next fight after Groves. Warrington 7 months between Selby and Frampton. Whyte 7 months between Chisora and Rivas. Saunders 9 months between akavov and Monroe then his next fight after Lemieux was 12 months away. Not to mention Fury and his hiatus. It happens. It’s not the biggest thing in the world. Once they’re back you need to keep them active and get them big fights. With the WBSS finals coming up live on SKY is there a better platform to showcase Smith? Remind everyone that he’s the super middleweight king of this tournament and ram his highlight reel down the public’s throat, stopping George Groves.
He should fight benavidez after he wins the WBC. He said he wanted that fight after he best groves. Tyat was ine of the first things he said.
I get your a Smith fan mate and you do know your stuff, but think you may have blinkers on a wee bit here. The tournament done wonders for Smith ..financially and won world title but his reputation would have went up more with a win over DeGale (he made the right decision entering WBSS btw) Smith will get the big fights with Hearn, but I don't think he fancies the Saunders fight and if he does, it makes sense to have it at Anfield next summer surely? If he leaves Hearn it would be a ridiculous move, he just needs to be patient it isn't like a lot of people will be lining up to fight a giant at the weight who can punch like Smith. His personality rightly or wrongly again has held him back again because he is a quiet guy just goes about his business.

Nobody has ever cared about Degale, not even during his road warrior spell of his career which i personally give him a lot of credit for Not a chance that fight would have done more for him
DeGale v Smith on PPV, Sky Sports news the hype the build up etc.. Would you argue against that would have made him more well known?
Smith v Ryder is naff . Smith will dominate. Ryder is solid Brit/Euro level but has nothing to trouble Smith. He should fight on the Katie Taylor card instead. Doesn't get much bigger than that.
Ryder fight is a waste of time for me. Not a bad fight but does nothing for Smith. Not like it’s going to be wetting the appetite of the casuals and raising his profile...
Ryder is ideal after the layoff. Decent name, decent fighter, well known among Brit boxing fans and a handy nights work for Calum. Get Ryder out of the way and have a big PPV event v BJS next.
Eddie doesn’t want Saunders next. He wants it in the summer. So we will be back at square one looking for an opponent in the meant time or another 7/8 months waiting for the summer.
Absolutely, plus a week or two later DeGale admitted he needs a major operation, so fight would not have happened. If the fight happened it would have ended badly for DeGale.
