Well I guess his prime weight was around 170 (I always add on a couple of pounds for the guys who didn't do same-day weigh-ins). So I would give a chance to the most monstrous punchers ever at that weight (Fitz, Langford, ... Choynski?!). Or possibly the best ever swarmer (Greb) or boxer (Charles) at 170. But to be honest, I wouldn't pick any of them with great confidence, if at all.
Jones' prime years were '94 to '99 and he was probably at his absolute physical peak between late 94 and late 96 while he was a super middleweight. Based on that I'd say Greb at 168 and Charles at 175 are the best bets to beat him during that period. But that's speculative at best.
Nothing much to add but Charles and Spinks are the only guys who might beat him. I don't see anyone else who would.
Feints, traps, pressure and of course power. Jab at his ****in chest incessantly. Roy had a unique style / ability of constantly changing the rhythm. You better be smart and durable to withstand and figure it out. I think at 175, Qawi would be able to do it if he was aggressive enough. That's if, though. I would also pick Moore to set up a KO (whilst down on the cards). I think Ezzard would win in similar circumstances (close boxing match to KO).
I've barely seen Langford and Fitzsimmons fight. Have you seen their historic fights on yee old world wide web? Moore was very good. That's a close one too, just not as close as Charles and Spinks.
like this - RJJ vs Lloyd Marshall and other "you don't impress me" type fighters too. Lloyd was Roy long before Roy was Roy.
Qwai would have easily got outboxed- he made Spinks look like Ali. And Spinks wasnt anywhere close to as fast as a Jones
