In boxing how useful is it to watch opponent's feet to predict when/if he/she is about to lunge forward backward and time your punches accordingly?

To watch opponents feet in boxing can be useful, useless or a suicide. More useful in kickboxing, MMA, muay thai, karate, etc.

Watch the hips because like Shakira's song, hips don't lie.

In all seriousness though boxers have different tells and triggers so you have to be aware of everything.

Allan green used to always look down at the ground when he fought. Very bizarre habbit that i never seen anyone do except him.

He also took his ring name after the like sixth best flick directed by Jarmusch (and ninth best featuring Whitaker)...so yeah, wouldn't recommend following Allan Green's lead on anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Guess that stuff works against lesser opposition?for the most part though,I'd say most of it is reactive.

I don't see how looking at a guys feet in regards to lunging in is going to help. Their upper body is going to be far in front of their feet.

Mark, a good fighter is not going to "lunge." Good fighters keep their feet under them, if they move forward, it will probably be behind a jab. Like Big Ukrainian said, watching the feet is "extremely useful." Good fighters will move their feet to correspond with their hands, if they don't keep their feet under them, their punch probably won't be much, and they will be off balance and not able to throw another punch. Fighters that lunge usually get caught coming in and learn in their first sparring matches to break the habit of "lunging."

You’d be an absolute fool to stare at your opponents feet. The rods in your eyes are for detecting movement, that’s your peripheral vision. If you look at their feet you not only react slower to their feet, but you’re blocking your vision of everything else. You should be looking to their centre, without focusing on anything.
