Where was Durans better defense against leonard in the rematch or against laing and sims? As far as footwork I really don't think there was a huge difference; just look at the Chavez ramirez fight; that's a prime example of really good footwork by Chavez where he made ramirez miss almost every left hand he threw. Again, the fact that duran was quicker and more athletic does not mean he was better defensively than Chavez!

cant compare, Duran could still perform at an elite level when he lost to Kirkland laing; didn't he go on to beat Davey moore and pipino cuevas? When chavez fought Tzyue he was completely past it at the elite level. Duran has no excuses for the leonard rematch or the laing fight!

Duran wasn't ready for the rematch It took a lot out of him to beat Leonard and all he wanted at that time was an easy fight before going again, his trainers screwed him over in that fight, he just didn't want to be there, people who know boxing know that.
It took him a long time to recover from that fight but he came back and showed he was a true champion and had many better wins than Chavez even in his later career. Duran's career is light years ahead of Julio.

Yes he does. His conditioning just like James Toney and countless others. Just because Duran didnt always have the proper discipline your gonna be another one of these guys that takes advantage of it. You can do better than that. Adleast Duran didnt act like a biich the way Chavez did with the Williams affair or blame his quitting against DeLahoya on one of his cornermen when the mic clearly had him quitting We all have our faults. I was under the impression we were talking both men at there best not stooping to another level. Show me a Chavez fight where he preformed on a Defensive level like Duran against Palomeno or DeJesus 3 to name a couple.

palomino was a stiff; it doesn't take a lot to make him look slow out there. I like how you Duran fans have every excuse in the book for when Duran should have performed better, yet you guys give him all the credit for his wins, but have every excuse for his losses at the higher weight. Chavez would have beaten de jesus just like duran beat him minus the knockdowns! As far as quitting; I don't think a duran supporter has any right to talk about quitting LMAO

Yeah im one of those realistic guys who sees the truth; im not one of those blind Duran fans who make excuses for him. Duran was a great fighter, but not flawless or invincible. At lightweight I believe Chavez was just as good if not slightly better technically, which is the reason why he beats de jesus the same way in my opinion.

How dare I say that Duran was not flawless and invincible at lightweight when he clearly was not. Duran beat a bunch of bums at lightweight and lost to DeJesus; plus got dropped twice in the process. Had Chavez actually stayed at lightweight and fought the same class of competition he would have been just as dominant, if not more so because he actually had more discipline than duran. Duran had several technical flaws at lightweight which he improved on later as he moved up in weight class. People try to apply those improvements to his lightweight career which does not make sense in my opinion. Chavez was better technically at lightweight, but Duran was more athletically gifted. No controversy there except for blind duran fans who think there man was a God

Fellas let's steer this back to DeJesus.
What do you guys see in him at or near his peak?
I'm seeing good quickness both hands and feet, excellent counterpuncher. Pop in both hands. I like how he feints like he wants to go toe to toe, let his opponent load up, he backs off slightly and counters. He was masterful at this tactic.
Pretty good whiskers too but not iron. A normal chin.
What are some of his weaknesses? stamina? Size?

I don't really want to get into the whole Leonard Duran thing. Ray won the rematch fair and square. He use smart tactics, he won the fight. With that said Ray didn't really land that many clean hard punches. Yes he was frustrating Duran, yes but I didn't see a whole lot of clean punches. For a guy as fast as Leonard still he showed good defense even that night. Ray was up like 5-2 or 4-3.

When was Duran ever better than the DeJesus 3 fight. Durans prime was at LW he was cresting the other side by the first Leonard fight. Ive not bad mouthed Chavez just said Duran is better period.
Prime DeJesus has a great chance outboxing Chavez. Agree or disagree its my opinion
