This thread is inspired by a Twitter argument I stumbled across, I don’t claim that I discovered this myself but I do wonder if this can be bettered? So is there a better RING MAGAZINE MIDDLEWEIGHT TOP 10? (sorry for the capitals but there’s criteria here lol)

    Here it is 1991’s....WoW
    1-Micheal Nunn
    2-Julian Jackson
    3-Sumbu Kalambay
    4-Mike McCallum
    5-Steve Collins
    6-Chris Eubank
    7-James Toney
    8-Micheal Watson
    9-Nigel Benn
    10-Reggie Johnson

    Begs the question:

Erm...You need to suggest an alternative ring magazine middleweight top 10, that is better than or close enough to the 1991 top 10 they put out. So I would say it’s back to the drawing board for you mate..... but what do you think the answer is to your question? Is it even a question?

    1992:
    1. Julian Jackson=Jackson
    2. James Toney=Toney
    3. Reggie Johnson=R Johnson
    4. Roy Jones Jr. >Nunn
    5. Mike McCallum=McCallum
    6. Sumbu Kalambay=Kalambay
    7. Gerald McClellan>Collins
    8. Lamar Parks<Eubank
    9. Bernard Hopkins>Benn
    10. Thomas Tate=Watson
92 is better because Hopkins and Jones are better than anyone in 91.

Novice is a stretch, offensive minded B-Hop was a different beast, but a beast nonetheless.

Hopkins had an impressive mw reign but there are several that I think on that list would have beaten him, especially at that time. Remember it was not until Hopkins 3rd attempt when he won a world title.
I rate Hopkins highly but think others at that time would have beaten him.
There are some around that time that I think would have beaten Jones at that time also

    Novice isn't the right word.

92 Roy and Hopkins, McClellan, and Tate>Nunn, Eubank, Collins, and Watson

Hopkins first entered a boxing gym in 1988. He had 3-4 years of real boxing experience in 1992 and only fought journeymen and a few gatekeepers. That's the definition of novice.
