Quick clip of the brilliantly dynamic Jung Koo Chang in possibly his best performance, in the rematch against the defensive master Hillario Zapata. These smooth shifting motions were utilised frequently by him.

Chang is possibly the most naturally seamless offensive force I've ever seen. When sharp and on form (which wasn't all the time) he could beat nearly anyone around his weight.

Any thoughts on Chang's offensive technique?

 

To me this is a very interesting technique. Chang is the only fighter I've ever seen utilise a shift with a lead hook.

 

Zapata was better than anyone on your hero Gushikens resume. You know, the guy that fought in the same division you are deriding, at a weaker period BEFORE CHANG. And retired as soon as he lost.

Besides, this post was to discuss technique etc. Don't know where this came from. You're extremely biased.

 

And Flea is up his own ass and pretentious, but he knows what he's talking about.

Meanwhile you're making fun of a division with one of your favourite fighters in it lol.

And Zapata was a brilliantly talented fighter. Of course he was no Leonard. But Chang was NINETEEN when he lost a debatable decision (he shouldve won) with a foot injury. He then stopped him in a rematch very quickly, where I'll concede Zapata wasn't peak either (because he was a piece of ****).

Still, Chang's resume and dominance speak for themselves. If you can't see that, you're blinded by bias.

Flea and others put me on to Chang, but I think highly of him from my own standards.

And as highly as I think of Chang, I think even higher of fighters such as Harada, Wolgast and Wilde, who I'd all pick to beat him.i could also see Perez beating him in a war. I also think Canto is much greater and more skilled, but would have major trouble due to the stylistic clash.

 

I like the division. It had, and has today, some real skilled and unique fighters.

Of course, Fly and Bantam are much greater and have the greater fights. My focus has been on these two at the moment, actually.

 

Also, I was thinking about doing posts about technique of fighters, with little clips and write ups like this one, when I have the time. I was think of lower weight greats, but was also think of Moore, Charles, Steele etc. What do you think?
