How many former heavyweight champs would Jones have beat in their primes?

Jim Flynn knocked out Jack Dempsey and nobody calls him a champion. Neither Joe Choynski or Ken Norton.

Lewis wasn't a champion when McCall knocked him out.

I hate to say it, but Jones might have beat 1986-1988 Holmes.

Holmes in some ways (including punching power) was more of a heavyweight than ever in the 90s. So I don't know it Toney could have handled either him or Foreman during that time. He might have beat Foreman (I doubt it) but it would have been like Holy/George, with GF giving a very good account of himself.

I take that back, Jones would have lasted only a bit longer than Qawi and been out against Foreman in 8 rounds.

And yeah, I'm fully aware and agree Roy was a sensational ATG.

Bowe would have walked all over Roy imo.

Lewis was the WBC champ when McCall knocked him out.

I do agree with you on that one. Prime Bowe beats a hell of a lot guys that are historically thought to be better than him.

    I think so, too.

That said, unfortunately what I wrote is for a very limited time (1992) in Bowe's career, which adds to the fact that he was a lesser champion overall. He just didn't have tenacity (though a ton of heart).

Actually, I was being a bit unkind to Bowe, whom after all was a legitimate, two-time world champion (there aren't that many of those).

Sanders was a true modern heavyweight with the body of a real estate broker.

So you don't think Lewis was the best heavyweight of the 90's/2000's? He beat everyone. Do you honestly believe Tunney or Dempsey for that matter would beat Lewis?

That's not related to the thread.
Lewis wasn't the best fighter in the world when he lost to McCall, he became bettet fighter after that.
I don't think Tunney would beat Lewis, that's unlikely. Dempsey could beat unexperienced version of Lewis. Even prime Lewis didn't just run through Holyfield.

I feel Roy is overated by some as a heavyweight, that`s why I wondered about the answer to this and someone mentioned him on a thread comparing his weight as a light heavy to Carpentier when he fought Dempsey, so it got me thinking. (which is never a good thing)

The first time Lewis held one belt he might not have been the best heavyweight in the world but bhy the time he became undisputed champ he was the best heavy in the world, if that makes sense, more seasoned and tutored.
