His podcast seems to be doing well. Do you think he has a bright future ahead of him in the talk show business?
Awful. He has the most awkward, inopportune interruptions. People don't care because a) they are scared, b) he's a legend and they know he's an odd one. That will help him a lot, but his actual skill as an interviewer is awful.
Would much rather have him as commentator. He's a premier boxing historian, and obviously knows how to read a fight.
I only watched portions of a couple of his interviews, and in those he was heavily reliant on his co-anchor to ask the relevant questions. It seemed like he was illicitly tripping .
Agreed. Being an interviewer is harder than people think. Tyson is too used to bring the center of attention, so I don’t think he’d ever be a good interviewer. This is also why former megastars like Tyson usually don’t make good trainers /managers/promoters.
Having practical knowledge isn't a guarantee that you'll be able to listen well and ask the right follow-up questions.
A few years ago yes, but now ? IDK he seems a bit whacked out and zoned out with long pauses in between deep thought . Not so sure his cohost either is a good mix ,its just an awkward mix of a lot of guessing games, like with Tyson fury both guys didn't have the material prepared to conduct a much better interview . Found out more about STD's then what I thought they would talk about. lol I would say hes fine with short interviews of insight not so much anything over 10 minutes. He would do fine per fight as a commentator to if he does research on the actual fighters hes talking about. As far as just boxing talk ,Atlas pod cast is far better.
To me Mike just comes across as a babbling idiot these days from what I heard of him on Joe Rogan and on this podcast. Good for him though he seems a lot more mellow and content smoking weed full time.
The Professor of Weed University, Mike Tyson, Lord Of the Blunts has found several careers post fighting. So if interviewing fails, he'll be alright!
