So this is definitely happening according to his son Conor on ifl yesterday Proper announcement next week, and apparently against an ex wbc champion or challenger? Any ideas who the opponent will be and at what weight class? I’m guessing light heavyweight or can he still make super middleweight?
Just had a thought about this.. what is worse? A 25 year old pro boxer taking a punch from a 25 year old pro boxer - both in the prime of their life etc. or a shot 55 year old taking a punch from a shot 55 year old?
He seems financially set so there really isn't a need for this fight. But Benn as much as I love him was never very bright.
A complete side point to the discussion but I really don’t believe that statement even though it seems to be the consensus opinion in boxing. The older a fighter gets, the the less athletic he becomes. Reduced speed and reduced flexibility = less rotation in the hips and shoulders. No chance they’d be punching as hard as they were in years back, notwithstanding potential weight gain which could feasibly increase punching power. Prime example for me in recent years is David Haye who landed completely flush on Bellew’s face in both fights with no effect. And Bellew was knocked out by Stevenson and Usyk comprehensively. Foreman I guess is the classic example used in support of “power is the last to go” but I’m not convinced. An interesting topic for discussion though.
Haye against Bellew is not a good example in my opinion, he already had foot/ankle/tendon problems before going into those fights
