A few years ago this division had the potential to put on one of the greatest tournaments in boxing history. There were plenty of 0's, plenty of wild cards, and a few older elite fighters with a lot left in the tank. Then it all went nowhere. Kell Brook moved up to MW to get smashed to pieces, lose his 0, and fade to bolivian. Amir Khan was on a respectable run post Garcia until he moved up to MW, got smashed to pieces, and became a meme. Keith Thurman took the 0 of Shawn Porter, perhaps the only good fight and result in this division in years. He also took Garcia's 0 but who cares, really. He became a hippie and then got beat by Pac. Errol Spence hasn't really done anything. His best win is a career 135 pounder who tried to...outbox him? Probably needs to move up soon anyway? What a joke. Crawford is newer to the division, but his resume has nothing interesting on it. Pacquiao BEAT Thurman, which means the torch is not passed. Hauling off Thurmans 0 into retirement takes even more steam out of the division. Shawn Porter is the guy who I guess just has to fight and likely lose to everyone. He's basically an elite journeyman, and is the only person keeping the division alive. What are these promoters doing? The fights have marinated to the point of rotting. Crushing journeymen and Shawn Porter will only keep the public caring for so long. This might be one of the worst divisions in boxing.
That’s what I like about the Heavyweight division. Harder to duck and no moving up or down in weight.
I think the criticism is over the top. Thurman vs Porter Danny vs Porter Thurman vs Danny Pac vs Thurman Spence vs Brook Brook vs Porter Next is... Spence vs Porter And then very possibly Spence vs Pac. .... I mean... its not that bad, and its still possible that Spence vs Danny, Thurman and Crawford can and will happen down the line. There are big fights that dont happen in every era.
Brook should have fought Vargus and then Spence.Course we will never know but he took a bad beating off Golovkin which put years on career imo.
It's not bad, and we're getting Spence-Porter. But for number 1 status in the division, I'm awaiting Spence-Crawford. I don't often pay for pay-per-view but I would happily for that fight.
Talent wise it’s one of the best divisions, and has more p4p top ten guys than any other weight class (Crawford, Pacquiao, Spence). But yeah, Crawford-Spence needs to happen.
That's just the state of boxing overall. I'd say 147 has the most talent, but not much follow through on great fights. I'd say that's the same for all the other divisions as well.
If beating Brook, Peterson, Ocampo & a 135lb Garcia means “of course” you’re in the top 10, then you’rebasically saying boxing is ****ed Loma, Canelo, Usyk, Crawford, Inoue, Estrada, Golovkin, Pacquiao, Kovalev, Tanaka. Can throw Shiro, Kyoguchi & Warrington above him as well
Brook is a better win than most of the guys on your list have, including your p4p#1 Loma, p4p isn’t based purely on resume anyway. Putting some of those names above Spence is laughable. Kovalev got knocked out by Alvarez 2 fights ago and nearly got KO’d by Yarde, and all GGG has done recently is lose to a smaller man and beat Steve Rolls, how do you have them ahead of Spence? Drop the agenda and try again.
I would've helped you out and explained it to you, but your first sentence alone, let alone the rest of that rubbish, shows which one of us has an agenda, and I cba with trolls
