Look. I love Marciano. He was a full blown savage. As much a "fighter" as you could ever desire in a human. And yes, on a certain given night, he could beat anybody. But... when we are talking the odds, I gotta go with what I know. Unless Marciano is some sort of Martian who is completely unprecedented and unpostedented (my word) there is a certain reality that must dampen outrageous expectations.
The gazelle punch, like the check hook, is something that has been used since the start of boxing, but where the terminology was introduced at an arbitrary period. It’s essentially a leaping hook.
This is isn't my favorite era by any stretch but I love listening to these old guys talk. Marciano, Archie, Charles and Walcott all seemed like such likable guys and had such cool, almost cinematic ways of speaking.
Good insight and I believe you are correct. They all seem to carry some extra charisma much like their movie counterparts in Brando, Dean and Clift. You've hit on something deeper here, sir.
In the case of those actors, perhaps it was their sexuality which added another dimension to their aura ?
