The only one i think that beats him is crawford imo. People have forgotten how good hatton was at his peak. Unfortunately he wasted a lot of it fighting guys that we,re past it etc. He could have and should have stepped up sooner that he did. Would have taking a few good scalps on his way to mayweather. For all the slagging ricky took for his lack of discipline....you,d struggle to find a better engine on a fighter coming through. He was relentless in there....didnt give guys a chance to breath. Body shots we,re leathel as well...started working guys over from the first bell. Thinks its a case of watching mayweather and pacman dealing with him...then starting to believe most could have done it the same. Whereas these 2 we,re twice in a generation talents. Taylor, prograis and postal a million miles away from mayweather and pacman...crawford as well tbh. Hatton would beat the first three and give crawford a fight. All tough fights. Old tyszu was better than the first three tho.
What’s Postol done to get tipped to beat Hatton? Ricky would bring a war to Taylor as well - I need to see a bit more from him too to give a solid answer. Crawford would stand Ricky on his head and Prograis stylistically would be trouble too.
Not well at all, he was a protected fighter who outside of an ancient semi retired Tszyu, avoided almost everyone until cashing out vs mayweather, theres a lot of legit world level guys right there he would get found out very quickly.
It's been awhile, but if I remember rightly, didn't Cotto move up to 147 not long after Hatton beat Tszyu? He also fought Maussa in a unification fight right after Tszyu, who was coming off a win over Vivian Harris who was seen as the dark horse in the LWW division back then. OK, Collazo was a cherry pick to an extent as he was an unheralded fighter and clearly the weakest of the 147 champions. But, considering it was Hatton's first fight at the weight, it was hardly a surprising pick for a first fight in a weight division against a fellow champion. I think Urango was a unification, too. Hadn't Hatton been stripped of a belt when he moved up to WW? The Urango fight was a chance to win it back. He then fought Castillo. So, in his four fights between Tszyu and Mayweather, Hatton fought two LWW unification fights and one fight at WW for a world title. He was hardly being protected. I think the problem is that once Tszyu was beaten and retired, Cotto had moved up, and Harris had been exposed, there wasn't a hell of a lot of talent in the division. Hatton definitely avoided Witter, but no one else I can remember. As for how he would fare today; I think he could hold his own. I would pick Bud over him. Prograis, to early to tell, but his habit of nit throwing combinations against a pressure fighter like Hatton could hurt him down the stretch. Hatton v Taylor would be an absolute war.
You can cherry pick stats and things to justify Ricky's career but the fact is he was overhyped, most of the boxing world knew it, take this for example of that This content is protected The Tszyu win is often heralded as a great win but even the pundits there are like stay well clear of cotto and ho for old Tszyu hes washed up. I go on the eye test, outside of Tszyu there are no great hatton nights, even his fights with the likes of collazo and urango were unimpressive and contentious and those guys were far and away off top tier, i mean urango got smashed to bits by Devon Alexander. In top 140-147 fighters of the time you have 4 tiers imo Tier 1 Floyd, Pacquiao Tier 2 Mosley, Cotto, Marquez, Margarito Tier 3 Maidana, Bradley Tier 4 Khan, Hatton, Alexander, Judah, Kotelnik It remains to be seen where the fighters mentioned in the OP would go but i think most of them are in that 2-3 range
First thoughts on this are: Hatton beats Postol and Josh Taylor Prograis and Crawford beat Hatton Hatton never fared well against world class technical boxers.
No way are the guys mentioned in the op the same tier as mosley, cotto and marquez. Including crawford. He beat ricky burns by four points. All three of them would have stopped burns without too many problems.
