Isn't it a bit naive to expect past era fighters to be competitive against modern fighters...?

But it sure as hell worked against a boxer like Ali and Ellis, both of them former champs.

Frazier was doomed against super big punchers just because of the way he came in.

Smokin' was more than just a singularly novel way to defend oneself...it neutralized classic boxer's combinations and just generally confused the hell out of them.

I feel really bizarre seeing people mention Fury and Joe in the same breath. Totally different styles...plus, Joe had more heart in his little finger than Fury has in his whole body.

Just my opinion, no offense meant to fans in the slightest.

When you have to use a 154lb bout to disparage 135lb Duran. Just shows how good Duran was.

Fury is a POS and he has a completely different style. The question is who today’s bobs and weaves as good as Frazier. Answer is no one. Frazier prime was 50 years ago.

No one throws combinations as good as Joe Louis. Louis prime was 80 years ago.

It's naive to assume today's boxers would win based on? Nothing. They tweet about fighting really well. Today's boxers don't faced the best competition on a regular basis. It's always some angle for the house fighter.
Competition makes you better at whatever you do. There were many more good boxers around preTV. TV killed the small fights clubs.

Not necessarily. If a match can sell and the opponent is well known and a ticket seller you’d be surprised what a sanctioning body would allow. Sterling Davis was a very well known wrestler and truthfully the match should’ve been treated as an exhibition, but Davis was likely more well known than many of Archie’s legitimate boxing opponents.

If Floyd Mayweather had still been the active WBC/WBA welterweight champ when he decided to fight Conor McGregor I have no doubt that the fight would’ve been approved by both the WBA and WBC because Conor was easily more well known than any active Pro boxer at the time except Mayweather himself and PAC and he was a great ticket seller. This fight also should’ve been treated as an exhibition, but Conor was too well known for boxing officials not to approve it as an official fight.

Tough times make tough men....fighters today "huffing & puffing" their way thru a 4 round prelim....coming into the ring with a roll of flab and "man boobs". I'll take Marciano....Dempsey...Louis...SRR...Jim Brown...Bronko Nagurski...Johnny Unitas...Otto Graham...Jim Taylor...Marion Motley...over the "fighters"...and NFL "players" of today. HOF line man Bob St.Clair (1953-1963)...was asked if he could have played today. He replied:" The question is...could the "candy asses" of today have played with us?"

What does it matter how good anyone does it now, if Joe got laid out doing it years ago?
