Sorry Tonto, only just seen your post. All rules, gloves and distance as if he was fighting in the 1960 s. Assume that Jeffries had come along same time has Patterson, so he's familiar with everything of that Era. A big, strong guy thrown in to the mix of Chuvalo, Williams etc.
Okay thanks. I think he beats Cooper,Chuvalo,Mildenberger, and possibly that version of Moore. The others are toss ups imo.
Yep some of the guys that Jeff beat, seems to me to either knocking on in year s or perhaps not the greatest of contender material. In other Era I believe he struggles a fair bit.
People talk about him needing time to adjust. The only adjustment needed, might be simply to tell him what rules the fight was going to take place under!
Yes, but Jeffries did fight in some fifteen round bouts. It would not be an alien concept to him. He would have a pretty good idea what he needed to do.
Jefferies TKO9 Cooper Terrell UD15 Jefferies Jefferies TKO14 Folley Chuvalo KO9 Jefferies Mildenberger UD15 Jefferies Williams TKO6 Jefferies Jefferies KO5 Moore Happy to explain my picks. 50s Moore beats Jefferies on points imo.
Size, power and physicality. Chuvalo would have no respect for Jefferies power and would fight like it, ragdolling him around based on size, slowing his pressure with body shots and finishing him brutally. Worst fight for here next to Mildenberger. Williams would have the power to stop him imo, he'd find hitting James like shooting fish in a barrel. He'd mark him up and beat him down similar to Chuvalo but he'd have to mind his chin abit.
Jeffries was very tough and quick. Sullivan wrote that Jeff was the quickest big man he ever saw. Again we have a universally acclaimed ATG in the ring with two contenders who failed most every time they stepped up to a high level. They are not beating Jim Jeffries.
Cleroux, DeJohn, Bonavena - Chuvalo didn't rag-doll them. Williams didn't knock out many (any?) top fighter he fought. They might beat Jeff but knockouts I feel are unlikely on the evidence.
There is virtually no footage of Jefferies in his prime. So you can't say that with absolute certainty. Also styles > levels Also Chuvalo is a stylistic nightmare for Jefferies. So is Mildenberger.
Chuvalo did rag doll Terrell tho, along with Williams and Quarry. Also the Bonavena fight was close, and Bonavena was a strong fighter himself He stopped Terrell and hurt Liston. I imagine he'd be able to hurt a walk forward guy like Jefferies
William's mystic is built on hurting Liston, he didn't even floor him. Bethea, Liston, Bonavena, Cleroux, DeJohn are the nearest fighters these two met to what we think Jeffries was and Williams and Chuvalo didn't blow them away. Chuvalo didn't ragdoll Quarry and the KO was just daft. Terrell was hardly a Jeffries clone. Choynski, Ruhlin, Armstrong, Sharkey, Fitz were good punchers and didn't put a dent in Jeffries so I'm convinced that neither knocks him out. They might, however outpoint him but I'd favor Jeff.
