Chavez really had nothing to trouble an in shape Duran in my opinion, very unlikely there'd be a KO either way but I can't see anything other than a Duran UD.

Nothing to gain? uh, how about money? Oh, no doubt he could take a punch, but , who did he face that was a big banger? The fact is his style would play into Duran's hands perfectly, Chavez would be coming forward and exchanging hooks toe to toe with a fighter who is better defensively than Chavez, is a better boxer, and who hit harder than Chavez, he didn't get the nickname Hands of stone because of his looks.Chavez can't fight backing up, and against Duran he can't come forward

How much money was the purse? Who offered this fight and how old was Chavez? I need details. Chavez would have badly beaten, and Ko'd a 44-year-old Duran if he was in his mid 30's

Duran at age 35 lost to Sims, and Pazienza at age 43.

I agree Duran is faster and more skilled, but don't under sell Chavez's accuracy to the body ( where Duran didn't like it ) or his stamina in the later rounds. Chavez to me had the better chin. This fight is going to be a war. Duran wasn't a big puncher in the 1980's, he went the distance more often than not. I'd call him a solid hitter with accuracy north of lightweight.

It's a good match up. Duran fan's are tough to reason with as he was destroyed by Hearns, and quit when Leonard was pouring it on. Yes, he went the distance with Hagler, but Hagler had a lot to do with that. And the loss to Laing? When Duran was in his prime? That's something that should not happen to an upper-echelon all-time great. Yet it did.

Roberto has an uneven record north of lightweight vs. the better fighters he met and was upset too many times by lesser men to think he would beat Chavez at age 44.

Chavez would be duran's toughest opponent at 135; he was better than any lightweight duran fought!

I agree, and no way Duran would have beaten Chavez at age 44. Duran fans can be tough to find middle ground with.

I like duran, but his fans annoy the sh......t out of me. They think Duran was this invincible force who couldn't lose to anyone that was not much bigger than him. They forget he lost to de jesus and struggled to put lesser fighters than chavez away. Somehow, in their warped minds they believe Duran would have easily dominated another ATG like chavez! Mind you, im not saying that chavez would win, but i think it could go either way based on their styles.

You forget to add his loss to Benitez a very good but maybe not great fighter. I agree 100% on Duran fans. Sometimes I wonder if Duran fans are also big Tyson fans if you know what I mean.

Exactly, they Give Duran all the credit for his wins above lightweight and use those same wins to compare him in fantasy matchups, but the moment you mention his losses, there excuse is "he was past his prime, or he was fighting bigger men" LOL, you cant have a reasonable discussion with them !

Benitez wasn't great? And Duran haters bring up his losses from all these divisions north of his natural weight class, every time, like he was supposed to just blast them out like at lightweight. The fact he took those guys on and was competitive and you're talking about it shows how good he was.
Duran was better at practically everything than Chavez. Duran didn't like it to the body? Barkley and Cuevas gave him bombs to the body and he didn't go anywhere. Duran himself had very underrated body punching.
You reckon Chavez could have beaten Leonard or Barkley like Duran did? Just...no chance.
There's a reason so many people go on about Duran, like Robinson or Ali or whoever, so what.

Retiring as World Middleweight champion with his title, after 14 title defenses, 1970- 1977. He was not a talkative fighter as we see today, and sit at ringside boasting about his upcoming opponents. His fist did the talking in the ring. He fought the opponents available in his time, which is all any champion can do. What matters is the boxing judges score cards.
