Despite unpopular opinion, Stevenson was still the World champ at 175 when Kov and Ward fought.

Well he beat an Unbeaten GGG who was P4P rated in the rematch for the 160 Title, if he wins vs Kovalev that would be the #2 Rated LHW and the most decorated Champ in the division
And at SMW a fringe top 10 168er who was a title holder and only has losses to Canelo and C.Smith who is the number 1 rated SMW.
The 2 actual Championships vs GGG and Kova would top elite top quality wins and the fight with Rocky is just a semi decent contender who wasnt even the real Champ just a belt holder or #1 contender to that title context wise those are wins that would be the stuff of ATG making

Dude .most guys who hold regional titles are top 50-100 guys who hold regular titles are at very minimum top 10... even still neither is the same as the real Champ so on that point we agree.

Fielding is good because he ONLY lost to canelo and Smith? And all because he had a belt, yes? Fielding had done nothing of note at 168 to be considered some top ten anything. It's wins that propel you, not losing to two better guys.

I can't believe the amount of disrespect you're showing for the likes of the European title whilst buying into the absolute BS of 'regular' titles.

And let's not go into the whether he actually beat Golovkin debate again. I don't think he did but that's a different matter.

I will call you on the suggestion of Fielding being a 'semi-decent' contender though. If he hadn't of been beaten up by Canelo then he wouldn't be rated by a lot of the people on here who try to give him the benefit of the doubt at all.

If he hadn't been beaten up by Canelo, most people on here would never have heard of him.

It was a terrible fight to even test the water at 168 with. The rehydration clause just added insult to injury.

The WBA regular "title" is completely meaningless. It's not a proper world title.

But if ginger nuts beats Kov fair and square that would be impressive. Enough to make him #1 p4p imho. Fair and square is unlikely when fishnets is involved though.

So your saying Fielding wasnt in the bottom half of the top 10 at the time of fight? I feel like your trying to grasp on to fielding to somehow devalue the who thing when 2/3 of the opponent are too quality elite tier. And the one that wasnt was still top 10... as far as European belts compared to regular..
Name me the European champ that's in any top 10 right now, fans when it suits them will act like regular champs are the real champ... look at GGG 65% of his MW defense record is of a REGULAR TITLE by your measure that is a fake stat then?

What was your 168 top ten at the time they fought?

I wonder what the conversation between Canelo and Oscar was like before signing up for this fight?

C - are you sure you’ve got everything under control ?
O - yep, it’s in the bag, just sign.
    C - Oscar, he’s a legit 175 dude, are you sure?
O - relaaax, I told you, I’ve got this, nothing to worry about *sniff*
C - but... look, he knocked down and outpointed Ward, of all fighters, Oscar, I think this is a ****ed up idea
    O - sign, damnit
    C - but...
    O - I said sign!

Not in my book he didnt. Plus the majority of boxing people & most fans think GGG won both fights but was robbed AGAIN!!

I don't recognise Golovkin's 'regular' title defences as legitimate world title defences. I'm on record many, many times saying that I think they don't count so yes that is to me a fake stat.

And if you think I need Fielding to devalue 'regular' titles then you're massively mistaken. Ahem. Manuel Charr. Ahem.

If he had beaten Kovalev in his prime, it would have meant something. This is a sideshow. I can't stand fighters who won't fight someone until the other fighter shows weakness of some sort. I'd have much more respect for Canelo if he would fight some of these fighters in their prime, like a David Benavidez. They both are fighting at roughly the same time. If they both win, they ought to fight each other in their next fight.

It will be a good win if there's no dodgy decisions / clauses. Even though Kovalev is aged and just fought it's not an excuse for him. Then again, they might make a backroom deal with Krusher saying you get paid only if you take the knee. I've seen fights that just make no sense and this was one of my explanations.

Fair enough I feel like in principle we agree that the regular title isn't the real champ, how little we value each is a different story again even as a fan I wouldn't call Canelo a Champ at 68.
