I picked B-Hop on points. Lamatta was tough and not taken out easily. But Bernard would make him look ridiculous.
I got LaMotta on points based on his pressure, volume and consistent body punching. Good fight though.
Has Hopkins ever faced a good pressure fighter like LaMotta? I'm big fans of both of these guys and I can't decide. Would LaMotta's constant pressure, constant body punches, and low stance screw wwith Hopkins? Would Hopkins sneaking strikes, constant control, and classic boxing style be rough on LaMotta. Plus you've got the cardio issue. LaMotta seemed to do better in 10 round fights, but have trouble beyond that. And Hopkins is so good at conserving energy that I'd always give him the advantage in a 12-15 round fight against LaMotta. Neither of them are knocking each other out except in a 1 out of every 100 bouts. I sense a lot of veteran "dirty" tactics from both sides. It's a toss up to me
LaMotta on points. At middleweight, Bernard relied not on his supposed craftiness but largely on his physicality. LaMotta had that in spades. Over 15 rounds it is Jake who enforces his will not Bernard. This is a match of styles not greatness.
Other than being weight drained in the last Robinson fight in `51 Im not sure it`s accurate to say LaMotta had a problem in long fights. He did score a 15th round knockout to retain his Middleweight title against the Frenchmen. On the other hand Hopkins was always in good condtion but he never had to go 15 especially at the pace LaMotta would force. Not saying Bernard would necessarily wilt but Jake would put him through the ringer.
Hopkins never had the skill, power or speed of SRR and he never had the workrate of Lamotta, Lamotta by decision
I'm not a b hop fan, but he was definitely much more skilled than lamotta, so yeah in gonna go with b hop on points, neither guy really hurts the other.
