Could any heavyweight use the Dempsey roll efectively against today`s top heavies?

Today's heavyweights are too stiff for that, they would probably fall over their own feet.

Dempsey roll is hell of a risk.
Nowadays guys just punch way too hard for even trying that.

Mike Tyson used it in the mid to late 80s and he tore the HW division a new arsehole with it.

No reason why someone who is under 6 foot couldnt use that technique again against the lumbering giants

    Too much manga Mark.

Though it is a very subtle, effective technique for shorter powerful fighters, in real life.

Ruiz could do it easily, his head movement is great and he`s the right height, Povetkin is good at slipping shots also.

Still, it doesn't matter. He's dead, he's not doing it anymore, and no one is attempting to emulate it, because they'd probably get KTFO. Because technique like everything advances and evolves, it's irrelevant. But, it was clearly good and worked well for his time.

Tyson was excellent at the 'Dempsey Roll', though his was much more mechanical than Jack's. Which is both a potential pro and con, as it allows for better power build up, but is also more predictable (not that anyone could exploit it lol). It fit much better with the peek a boo style, which Dempsey did not utilise.

Dempsey did know his stuff about generating power, though.

Although not exactly the dempsey roll. Salvador Sanchez uses bob and weave to generate power at weird angles. Coupled with perfect foot placement, he was practically perpetual motion in action and implemented it offensively and defensively seamlessly.

As opposed to all the fluid 6'7" HW's of Dempseys days?
