I swear I've never seen such a flawless fighter technically. The blend of styles was unprecedented in how unique it is. His lack of dirty boxing was very visually appealing and he had a good chin and punch to boot. What a boxer, what a loss for boxing.
No. Not by a long shot. However, he was a skilled operator and applied his skills and mind very well. That injury robbed us of a real good fighter and stronger division(s). The easiest way to describe him would be 'East Euro Toney'.
Funny that, I likened him to Toney before, the comparisons are evident. Both really great watches, I love fighters who are defensively versatile and offensively deadly. You gotta admit that Pirog's defense was supreme too, he blocked and parried punches with ease without ever going on the backfoot, that's what impresses me the most about him. He had endless pressure and avoided so much punishment.
Yeah, I particularly enjoyed how he would chain his movements with aggressive shifting and pressure footwork. The KO of Jacobs is a beautiful example.
Yeah class, very unorthodox style though crossing feet and punching same time etc. but was class to watch, gave Jacobs some trimming that time
Best technician ever? How im the world can you think that? His career was super short! What ifs doesn’t work in boxing
I used to like him and still do. But I don't think I've ever been able to say a good thing about him on this forum because the representation of those who overrate him to the moon and back (barely an exaggeration) is far too great. Probably the same guys who thought Helenius was special. He beat Jacobs, Maciel, and was it Ishida if I remember correctly those are his best wins. Not to discredit it but I think it must be noted that Jacobs was a youngster who turned out to have cancer at the time. Cancer.
Here we go again with the eastern euro nutcases Pirog best technician ever? Oh yeah hes up there with toney! **** off
I'm not Eastern euro it's just that he had an immensely technical style. I'm not claiming he's an ATG or anything. Just pointing out how his style comes across. No need to get so salty.
It's not a what if, it's the observable fact that he had a far more technique based style than pretty much anyone I've ever seen.
Nah I've watched an abundance, it's just that his literal every single move was taken from studying film. I'm not saying that he's the best ever in terms of boxing ability, he wasn't physically gifted enough to be so, but he was technically very far ahead of almost anyone I can think of.
Yeah shame that one didn't pan out that would've been a fight for the ages and the kind that would have certainly answered a ton of questions about Pirog.
