I can't see him being nothing more than a gatekeeper now and I don't think he'd be willing to do that
That's a hell of a nickname actually. The problem is that it's stolen, kid chocolate retired (and died) long ago. A legend in this sport.
He basically burned his career when he ducked Golovkin. Whatever his handlers told him about that move proved to be wrong.
Best move of his career, he would've got trounced. No angle at all to win and it is a business after all
Yeah, because there haven't been multiple Sugars, or Hammers, or El Ferozes, or Magnificos, or or Escopetas (one fought just last night) ...this isn't like team sports where a jersey number is retired and can't be used anymore. Boxing nicknames, even those associated with legends, get recycled/used in homage - not "stolen" - all the time, it's a practice as old as the sport itself.
I was about to write in my previous post "were I a trainer, I would refuse to train a fighter with a nickname stolen to a legend. I dont know how there are people shameless enough to take the nickname "sugar", like mosley did, because no matter how good you are you will never honor this nickname, and in the unlikely case you could honor it, you should have made your own legend in your own nickname" Then I said to myself, no, people will no be such a dick, they will understand I guess. Well, I was wrong. And yes, it's stolen, the nickname, when it is the one of a legend, has a lot asociated with it, earnt with the work and talent of that legend. He who steals the nickname has no right to get everything asociated to this nickname. EDIT: and at the end of the day, and being honest, those nickname robberies are nothing but a try to atract public for free using other guy's talent. You want something? earn it by yourself! And you could say, "hey, chacal, you use rigondeaux's". And I would say, "yes, you are right, I shouldnt and I regret everyday the moment I did that"
Can’t say I’ve ever heard of Kid Chocolate before, what does the name refer to? I read an article about Mosley re the “sugar” title and it said for a time he was more than worthy of the name. I hardly knew boxing existed outside of the UK until the BBC started showing guys like Mosley,Oscar and Mayweather.
I’ve noticed some embarrassing ones lately that play on Golovkins GGG name?some midget in MMA has taken to calling himself triple D and there’s a triple C in boxing.Bit cringeworthy. If Tyson Fury is called the Gypsy King I wonder what Hughie Fury is known as?
Yep, he's finished making top money. He has lost his stamina and punch resistance, so at this point he's a walking disaster in waiting.
They've been getting recycled - no matter whom they may be associated with - since the nineteenth century. It's part of the sport. Get over it.
